Completed events:

NH Chess Tournament Rising Stars vs. Experience 12-22 August

David Howell was part of the ‘Rising Star’ team. He finished on 4.5/10 with wins against Ljubojevic, Nielsen & Van Wely. The average of his opponents was 2684. There is also a video clip on the website where David talks through his round 9 victory against Peter Heine Nielsen.

17th International Open Summer Nice

Harry Lamb scored 6, Callum Kilpatrick 5.5 and Steve Crick 4.5. Harry also won the Over 60s prize.

U14 8th European Union Youth Championship 3-11 August

10 English juniors played in events ranging from Under 10 to Under 14. Scores as follows:

Under 10s: Adarsh Vani 5, John James Daley 4, Isobel Sanders 3

Under 14s: Henry Broadley 5, James Bowler, Eugene Daley, Jennifer Ehr 4, Amol Vani 3.

British Land UK Chess Challenge Terafinal 21-22 Aug

Congratulations to Felix Ynojosa who won the first prize of £2000 on tie-break from James Adair, Martin Brown and Samuel Milson. All four scored 15/18 (3 points for a win). Lateefah Messam-Sparks won the girls prize and £1000 with 12/18 ahead of Anna Wang and Amy Milson who scored 11. David Redman scooped the U11 prize and Zheming Zhang won the U9 prize.

The Nice tournament was rather weak overall, in comparison with previous years; maybe they lost a sponsor (quite likely; the Club itself seemed to have lost their regular premises when I visited in July).

Callum's TPR is very low but I've noticed before that the French have a funny way of calculating these.
