Re: European Club Cup
The no- draws- before- move- 40 rule. Which worked really well in Paris recently.

So I noticed (see late edit). One other explanation is that nothing happened on that board at all and it was just a technical error which temporarily showed him as having lost at move 14. Well, no way of knowing from back here - and I am not going to phone him now to ask!

all right, obviously there are technical errors all over the shop. Dominguez v Cox is shown as drawn at move 15, which (in the absence of repetition) would be illegal, and would be of no possible interest to Dominguez anyway.

If you see any compensation for Simon Williams' three pawn deficit, call this number now

Re: European Club Cup
Though many English players are being clobbered as you would expect given the large rating differences, both Chris Dorrington against GM Zvjaginsev (2659) and Richar Palliser against GM Zhivalgo (2615) are showing with a 0.7 edge.

Dominguez Perez has apparently just played the remarkable Rc1 against John Cox

Terry Chapman also showing +0.7 against Efimenko. Barbican doing well so far.

Adding up the overall computer evaluation points in the match Barbican are currently up by around 0.2. Admittedly it's four small advantages against two bad bordering on lost positions.

Mark appears to have been 1/2-1/2, 1-0 and worse, all in the space of 5 minutesJonathan Rogers wrote:all right, obviously there are technical errors all over the shop. John Naylor was still on UK time and relaxing in the bath when the team captain rang him to enquire where he was. The team captain is quite upset and is contemplating whether violence should be used.

Re: European Club Cup
Surely experience says that the job description for captaining any team with John in it includes a standing requirement to "forcibly escort him to the board before the game"...? (and probably confiscate his mobile as well for extra security)

Re: European Club Cup
Seems like the haul for today will be two draws (Dorrington, Palliser) and 16 defeats. It looked much more promising than that 90 minutes into the session.

Re: European Club Cup
Yes. The one that really got away was Chapman v Efimenko. Up to move 30, Terry had quite outplayed his illustrative opponent and instead of the tempting 29 e6, he could have been two pawns up for nothing with 29 Qxb5 Nxb5 30 Nxc4 (which is immune, and threatens Nb6, and so on).
Ezra Kirk also let a good position slip away for Jutes of Kent. Excellent draw for Chris Dorrington and some quite prophetic stuff from Ben earlier in this thread!
