Sports Illustrated featured a certain Chess Player on their front cover in 1972 before an equally enthralling World Championship Match

Also contains an interesting article:

Thanks for that!

Page one of that article here (3 online pages: 'How To Cook A Russian Goose'):

http://si.com/vault/article/magazine/MA ... /index.htm

Also this short article ('The Mini-boom In Knights And Bishops'):

http://si.com/vault/article/magazine/MA ... /index.htm

The front cover can be seen here:

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/ ... ader_vault

If you turn to page 24 in that viewer, you will see other photos as well (Spassky, Lombardy, Fischer and Reykjavik). The Reykjavik one has some Olympics banner that I don't quite understand.

Interesting speculation about the seconds. The interview with Carlsen at his training camp (in that Red Bulletin piece I pointed out) included the detail that the identity of the seconds was a secret. Another article here with some thoughts from Kasparov:

It says here that there is live BBC coverage, but can't see anything on the bbc website. Anyone know if this is true?

From the context, I would have thought they meant NRK1

That would require the author of that piece to have put BBC1 in by mistake. Though judging by another article here:

http://www.worldchesschampionship2013.c ... brede.html

...the standards for that site are not high (random people blogging?).

That article says Carlsen's private doctor is 20 and then later says he is 29 (presumably the latter due to the time taken to qualify to be a doctor).

Dunno. Will it be different cameras and a different feed to the one from the official website?

http://chennai2013.fide.com/

Though that redirects to to chessdom.com

I take it all back!

Clearly not random people blogging.

It is a good article, well worth reading.

The site itself appears to be Chessbase on steroids, with multiple news stories relating to the WCC appearing every day.

Google translate gives BBC1 as the translation of NRK1. So somehow, I would assume that's where the mistake came in.

Google translate also gave supermarkets "Sboncen" for "Orange Squash" and "Pwyliaid" for "Polish" here in Wales. Unfortunately, Pwyliaid is the word for people from Poland, not the Pledge stuff. And sponcen is smashing little rubber balls against a wall with a raquet!
