It is a nice touch. Chess players' graves have been discussed here before (the ones for Alekhine and Capablanca are moderately ornate). Wonder how common it is to have statues done of chess players? I Googled briefly and it seems that it is far more common to have arty sculptures of generic people playing chess in parks.

I did find this, though, with three examples of statues of world chess champions:
