I often find that comments on this forum cause me to appreciate the weather outside.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Much easier to do that if you are in Spain, rather than Dudley.JustinHorton wrote:I often find that comments on this forum cause me to appreciate the weather outside.

Have the England Olympiad teams been announced officially yet?
If so what will they be?

Men's team is no great secret, surely, unless there has been a new development since 4NCL weekend? (Where, apparently, Gawain, Matthew and Nigel Short were each heard expressing some measure of relief at the news that Luke would be unavailable for selection because of work. No one else had turned it down so it is our other five active players who are well over 2600).

When we voted for Tromso, their biggest selling point, for me anyway, was that the Norwegians have pots of money so this wouldn't happen.
I still expect that we're going to Tromso, but it's now likely to be marred by the usual cheeseparing, which is a shame.

ChessVibes story here.

What Robertsen says is no doubt true, but not the point. I spoke to them in Khanty, as lots of people did, and they knew perfectly well that they were bidding for the World Cup. If they didn't like that, they should have altered their bid or withdrawn it.

Hi Mathew Peat,
"Given that the Olympiad is scheduled to start in approximately 3 months, isn't this leaving things a bit late?"
Given that Mathew Sadler is self employed I do not think that this is an issue.

And as I have tried to inquire elsewhere on this site - will there be a knock on effect on the British Championships?

There was a gap of four minutes between your original post and this post, and a gap of a further four minutes before your original post was answered. That's a pretty fast response for anything other than a face-to-face meeting or an instant-messaging system.CliveHill wrote:And as I have tried to inquire elsewhere on this site - will there be a knock on effect on the British Championships?
