Re: Olympiad
A possible outcome is that Yangyi Yu, should he win today, could get 3 gold medals, and enter the 2700 club.
One team, one individual for board 3 and one for overall performance.

Re: Olympiad
Topalov's drawn so Adams has to win a double rook ending for the board prize. I don't think he'll do it.

Re: Olympiad
I imagine someone has done the necessary calculations, but as Adams was facing a higher rated opponent than Topalov, he may only have needed to equal Topalov's result to overhaul him.JustinHorton wrote:Topalov's drawn so Adams has to win a double rook ending for the board prize
In the team context, Matthew Sadler drew by sacrificing two pieces for a perpetual, while Gawain looks lost. According to the chessbomb stockfish, he went wrong by playing the thematic e4 in a Nge2,e3,f3 Queens Gambit Exchange. Howell has to play ten moves on the increment, but the stockfish engine reckons he's better. He's now got the ending he seems to have been reaching all tournament, piece against pawns.

Re: Olympiad
Surely Adams still gets at least bronze? It is a draw now.
Howell could get a medal too, if he wins this game. One of the players above him was Ortiz Suarez, who drew with Sadler.

Anish Giri has won his game. Does he go above Adams?

Re: Olympiad
Ukraine are beating Hungary and should get silver. But who gets bronze?

Re: Olympiad
(I have no idea how to calculate the tie-break, by the way, and I've seen what it says on the website.)

Re: Olympiad
Eljanov is trying to win silver for Ukraine with 48.Nc4!? (Giving the N to get passed Q-side pawns.)
Balogh refused the N so remains a pawn down but defending a blocked position.
I should think France would need to win against Russia to get a medal if Ukraine win.

Re: Olympiad
Maybe he can't. Would that keep Hungary above other potential 17 points finishers?

Bacrot-Grischuk drawn.
Nepomniachtchi wins the match with France for Russia.
India 3.5-0.5 Uzbekistan!
Hungary, Azerbaijan, Russia & India all on 17pts.
Edit: France deleted.

Re: Olympiad
It's 14a here.
The position of teams that finish with the same number of match points shall be determined by application of the following tie-breaking procedures in sequence, proceeding from (a) to (b) to (c) to the extent required:
a) the sum of Sonneborn-Berger points, which are calculated as follows: match points of each opponent, excluding the opponent who scored the lowest number of match points, multiplied by the number of game points achieved against this opponent
Now I think this is confusing, and should read maybe

since otherwise it looks like you're trying to multiply by the number of points scored against the excluded opponent.
