So next up to the top boards are a bunch of GMs and IMs, including (from England) Adair (vs Nakamura), Bates (vs Kramnik), Speelman (vs Van Wely) and Parker (vs Lenderman). (Oh, and Adams is playing Vakhidov). Spoilt for choice, really, aren't we!

Did Naka just fall for an opening trap against Adair? Lost by move 8??

Where are you watching the games? I still get Nakamura - Summerscale on live games..

So Nakamura is a piece down for less than nothing against an IM with 17 minutes on the clock. No way he's gonna pull something out here.

Yes. The idea of an early Ne5 with g4 and h4 to threaten to trap the Bishop is an attempt to blow the Scandinavian out of the water. Some of the more theoretically minded British club players know about it, but then I would imagine facing the Scandinavian is not something Nakamura spends too much time over.Christopher Kreuzer wrote:Did Naka just fall for an opening trap against Adair? The Ne5 h4 g4 plan is covered in Attacking with 1.e4 by IM Sam Collins and Starting Out: The Scandivanian by IM Jovanka Houska.

Hmm. I see Richard Bates didn't last long. Nice game by Kramnik
EDIT: Critical moment for Adair... (move 38). Nooooo.....

Wow. Looks like a perpetual at best for Adair now.

On the positive side for English chess, Speelman beat Van Wely!

Yes, though Adams doesn't seem to be making progress. Anand drew. Howell and Sadler should win.

Re: London Chess Classic Super Rapidplay
At the critical point, Adair had to play 38.Nh4 or 38.Ne5 - arguably he shouldn't even have been going for a sharp line like that anyway. He then took the f4 pawn and maybe he thought he was still winning, otherwise he would surely have played safe and retreated the rook to h1. Wonder what Nakamura's reaction was like. I'd love to have seen his reaction to losing the piece and then winning the game.Clive Blackburn wrote:Wow, Nakamura won that one after all!
