You're absolutely right.
I'm easily confused by all these Americans with non-American names, particularly after a glass or two of red.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

I wonder whether I could make a similar claim regarding myself and all other participants of the Hastings Premier?

Just for the Record I predicted Karjakin to win from the start

So what did you think to the final coup de grace Qh6+?
Sorry for the late reply

I thought Karjakin played extremely well and liked the artistic finish. I loved watching it live and am glad i dont have a life.

On price comparisons I'm still trying to work out whether it cost my ex-wife £20 or £40 for my ticket to see Kasparov v Short as a comparison v $75.
She did not pay for 2 (and leave a 3 year old with one of his nan's). She also had to video-tape the live coverage and then had the dubious pleasure of going through the game again when I got home.

I'm pleased that many enjoyed the games - I'm looking forward to playing through them and analysis at some time.

Not sure that the Berlin is good for the patzers that many of us that post here are. A nice finish anyway.

And why not enter the London Chess Classic super rapidplay or 5 day mid-week tournament and watch the top-players in their tournament too?

The ACP have sent out a questionnaire to their members asking whether the format of the WC needs to change, the first few questions are about the individual so its Q 6-12 that we're interested in:

6. Which format do you prefer determining the World Champion?

Match

Tournament

7. If you prefer to have a tournament, what would be the best format?

8 players double round robin

KO Format

Other (please specify)

8. If you prefer matches, please answer the following questions:

How many games do you think is optimal to award the WCh title in a match:

12

16

20

Other (please specify)

9. Which time control do you think is best for a WCh match?

100’x40 moves + 50’ x 20 moves + 15’ with 30” increment from move 1

90’x40 moves + 30’ with 30” increment from move 1

120’x40 moves + 60’x20 moves + 15’ with 30” increment from move 61

Other (please specify)

10. In case of a tie at the end of the match, you would prefer:

The title stays with the Champion.

The title is awarded based on rapid/blitz playoffs

Other (please specify)

11. In case you think rapid/blitz playoffs should be used in the WCh title match - what would your preference be:

Tie breaks should be played after the regular games.

Tie breaks should be played before the regular games.

12. In case you think rapid/blitz playoffs should determine the WCh title, what would your preference be:

All tie break games should be played in one day

Tie break games should be played in 2 days.

Most of these questions have been discussed here already and most of us know where we stand but Q9 on the time limits was a surprise to me. I didn't know there was any particular issue there. You can access the poll here if you like http://www.chessprofessionals.org/conte ... ormat-poll

Over the last few days there has been some general nastiness on social media directed towards Karjakin because of the comments that Kasparov made post match. Have a feeling its because of Putin but the following quote is completely out of order:

"Karjakin as World Champion would have been a debacle. After all, the 16 World Champions, starting from Steinitz, are a series of outstanding masters whom chess can be proud of. It would have been very strange, the stars would have had to align in an unusual configuration, for a chess player of Karjakin’s level to beat a player of Carlsen’s level."

I like the idea of playing the match with an odd number of classical games (13 or 17 for example), with the challenger given one more game with white and the champion retaining the crown in case of a draw. It retains the concept of a new champion having to defeat the old one, but it makes it slightly easier for the challenger. It probably works well with the challenger playing white in odd games, including most important the last game. No rapid/blitz tie-break ever needed.

Just did, not sure a comment to an article on the guardian will have much audience though.

Not so many people there, the comments sections on the main bits of the website can get really quite active.
(Although they've also been profoundly depressingly divided for quite a while now.).
