Ah, I see. I was thinking we were White on board four. 2-2, it seems.

My Chessbomb is showing a fairly trivial R+P ending at move 46 on board 4

Naiditsch looks like an invaluable acquisition for the Azeris on bottom board. If they weren't already there, they certainly should be added to the top list of contenders.

Can anyone suggest a cunning plan for Luke to win the R+P ending, not on time?

I'd have to say "no".

USA still not quite living up to billing, and made four draws with Czech Republic today.

Well, isn't Luke losing. 3.5-0.5 is a bad day at the office. Mickey and Nigel play tomorrow - who else.

Luke or Loek? Looks like our Luke has found a way to lose, presumably whilst risking all for the win?

Well that is confusing. It says 73...Rg4 draw agreed. Which is either a nice gesture or a transmission error.

What I can't understand is why Luke played 56 Rc7 and brought his King to the Queenside. If that is an attempt to win, it looks a very odd one since the g3 pawn is falling.

The Scots just about managed a worse day at the office: 0-4 Turkey.

Jobava 1-0 Topalov, starting 1 d4 Nf6 2 Nc3 d5 3 Bf4 e6 4 Nb5 Na6 6 a3 ....

Well yes, that was my reaction too - and he was playing a former WC candidate in Ponomariov......

I had a suspicion that Karjakin (understandably) absenting himself from this one might prove a tad awkward?

Volokitin beating Grischuk with Black was arguably the biggest shock though.

Chess Results now showing McShane 0-1 van Wely ENG 0.5-3.5 NED

Round 5 pairing: Vietnam v England, that's Le Quang Liem-Adams. The top pairing is Ukraine v China.

Women: England v Zimbabwe

I could not remember when England were last beaten in an Olympiad match by 0.5-3.5 or worse...
