MVL is quoted as saying "Problem is last FIDE GP I also started with 2 out of 2, but then I won only one of the last 31"

Interesting median-flip in the 1 scoregroup, and it took me a while to work out why it's necessary: Grischuk and Nakamura have both played Hammer and Jakovenko, leaving Rapport as the only bottom-half black-seeker available to play either of them.

They'll have bigger pairing problems than that before the end!

I recall playing through one of Mickey's games, which had a spectacular finish. I then wondered when he put two crucial pieces on their squares and discovered it was by about move 6. He has the immensely desirable talent for putting the pieces on the right squares!

The chessbomb Stockfish engine reckons there was a strong continuation available shortly before move 40, at about the same time Joshua published his comment.

I thought he was declaring the result, rather than giving an assessment. I agree it looked very promising but it wasn't obvious (without consulting an engine) how to put black out of his misery.

I was watching it on chessbomb as well as discussing it with a strong player. its heartening to see Adams improving.
