Aronian draws to reach 4; that puts Svidler on 3.5 with Naka & Ding who drew

Not looking like Jakovenko will beat Giri, so maybe no change at the top

Radjabov not looking like winning either

Radjabov loses

Race to Candidates: Mamedyarov 340, Grischuk 336, [Ding Liren 320], MVL 291, Radjabov 247 and looking out of it unless he wins his last 3 games

I reckon so. Still, him holding on today while Radjabov didn't is a pretty big deal.

Indeed; I wonder how close mathematically Shak now is to the Candidates

If we assume in practical terms that Radjabov is out of it, then it is Grischuk or MVL for the final spot

I was hoping they might get some last round situation where Radjabov and MVL were drawn together where a draw might be good enough for both to qualify but a win for either would guarantee a place (and eliminate the other).

Probably not going to happen though.

Eljanov has beaten Hammer (though I suppose no-one cares).

MVL drew with Tomashevsky. Is it very difficult now for MVL to qualify (only 2 rounds left), and are Grischuk or Mamedyarov qualified yet?

MVL - Tomashevsky, Svidler - Naka, Ding - Giri and Jakovenko - Harikrishna all draws, so all on 4 except Giri on 3.5

Eljanov has won to join Giri and looks like Radjabov will too at move 40

I think MVL needs to stay in second (or better), and hope some people drop out of the tie, as currently too many people sharing the Grand Prix points in that pile-up for second place. A late surge from Radjabov (he probably still needs to finish with 2/2) would make things interesting. We might still get the last round pairing between him and MVL.

Unless they play each other, MVL could get to 6 and Radjabov to 5.5; if every other game were drawn then Aronian would also be on 5.5 (unless he lost to Radjabov in which case he would only have 5), which would take both MVL & Radjabov through

So, Shak not yet qualified for sure (although I reckon he's 95% certain)

Grischuk could still get overtaken by either MVL or Radjabov, but is currently favourite

Did we decide that Grischuk's tiebreak is superior to MVL's, so 2-3 in Palma wouldn't be enough?
