Just received an email from Worldchess, as follows.

£45- £100 seems a bit too expensive, especially if you have to travel from a decent distance away. Imagine if you go, they blast out a load of pre- prepared theory, then agree a draw inside a couple of hours?
See the bit I quoted above about ticket prices including free online access for the whole match. On that basis £45 is not so unreasonable perhaps. A lot depends on whether their online coverage is any good, and whether Agon/worldchess succeed in blocking chess24 etc. from covering the match. (Presumably they will not be able to block the moves but it's possible the only video and most up-to-date feed of the moves may be on the official site.)
I highly doubt the likes of Chess24 will be prevented from covering the match, and their commentators will probably be every bit as knowledgeable and insightful as the official commentators, so I guess at best the only difference between the Chess24 coverage and the official coverage will be cameras showing the players live. I guess it depends how important that is to the individual.

It is odd. A venue called 'The College in Southampton Row' that is quite old, that I don't know about. Of course, I may simply have forgotten. But I went to King's College, London.

It used to be the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design until they moved to Kings Cross in about 2011. Maybe you remember it under that name?

As in "that's where I / Caught her eye"?
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

'Common People' by Pulp (Jarvis Cocker).
Ah, that's why I didn't get the reference. I was thinking along the lines of Ray Davies.

I've got to admit that, as a Londoner who was at school in the City and must have walked down Southampton Row dozens of time, I was totally unaware of this "spectacular building", which I find surprising although it's entirely possible that I walk with my eyes only half-open. (And, of course, it may well have been built since my schooldays which ended rather longer ago than I care to admit here).

I thinks it's this one.

Not the Taj Mahal, but a nice building. There are many in London and you can easily miss them.

Mind you, on my first visit to New York I was informed that I had walked past the Empire State Building without noticing it. It's nothing special until you look up.

A nice tidbit from Leonard Barden here:

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/ ... -no1-chess
Meanwhile, the London venue for their 12-game title series starting on 9 November has finally been revealed. It is The College in Southampton Row, WC1, a short walk from Holborn tube station.

It will not be the first international chess match in historic Southampton Row, located where the City meets the West End. In June 1947 I was present as a spectator when Britain met Czechoslovakia at the Bonnington (now Hilton Double Tree) Hotel, and took away memories of the sharp and professional visiting team, of Jan Foltys elegantly defeating Harry Golombek, and of Gerald Abrahams making a mess of a drawn R v R+f+h ending against Frantisek Zita.

I think its these games Leonard's referring to, but the Abrahams game doesn't have the ending he refers to but I can't find any other game with these two players on my database:

Maybe look up the other games on the database that are from that match, and see if any have that ending?

I was referring to the Foltys v Golombek game where Foltys played White in a Sicilian Dragon.
