Well, as one of those who
has spent money on a ticket (and Ticketmaster and the organisers have finally got their act together and the tickets are now available to print), I hope AGON do a good job with this event, and that game 8 is a good one!

One question to ask might be whether FIDE can publicly say that the thrity-minute delay, and the general attempt to pointlessly intimidate other media organisations, is not to their liking.
I don't know whether they have the power to tell AGON to desist (I am guessing not, but we're beyond my level of knowledge and competence here) but there's no reason obvious to me why they can't make some kind of a fuss, and if that's so, then they should do it.

Or even that the ECF could say it. Presumably to some extent Agon will depend on the ECF's connections to get a VIP turnout.

As it's replying to Chess24 my working assumption is that it's directed at them. Not sure why Nigel would feel a charge of hypocrisy would suggest he was the target.

Well it’s an opinion. Nothing directly said about what AGON are doing.

Agon "It's not established case law, actually. It's established that chess moves are facts that fall under 'hot news doctrine', just like stock information, for example. As you know, stock information can be delayed for 15 minutes or more."

There's precedent for the transmission and display of moves in as near real time as the technology can manage, going back to 1978 in Baguio. Delayed relay of share prices on the other hand has an equally long history.
Delaying live broadcasts only dates from the DGT era as a crude anti-cheating attempt.

Delayed relay happens in most major poker tournaments. I think some chess players are asking for too much for paying too little.

They’re not arguing for delayed relay as an anti-cheating measure though, are they? They’re not proposing to delay their own “exclusive” broadcast - (unsurprisingly, as making the players hang around for half an hour after the game before giving their post game interviews would probably not be popular. Even if a good thing to allow Magnus time to cool down a bit...
)

I assume that the guy that you know is not I, but I excoriated Agon in my report on the Opening Ceremony.
