If Carlsen and Caruana draw all the remaining games (including the armageddon), could this be the only case where a new world champion wins the title without winning a single game in the final? (Answer: no - Karpov in 1975.)

Ian Rogers again:
"With the final classical game of London 2018 soon to begin, flashback to 2010. Match in Sofia tied after 11. Topalov goes all-in and loses to Anand. After the game Topalov said he feared playing tiebreaks on Friday the 13th as he had lost them v Kramnik in 2006 on Friday the 13th."

The above, which is taken from one spectator’s account of game 10, is not great PR either

For the alternative perspective, I went to a local chess club this week and five members had been down to the match - they said it was brilliant. Each to their own I guess

Formally speaking maybe, but nobody actually thinks like that.

Weirdly I found that I had no memory of that match at all. I had to look it up, on doing which the volcano business and the Lasker Variation sounded familiar, but prior to that, nothing.Chris Rice wrote: ↑Mon Nov 26, 2018 12:07 pmIan Rogers again:

Which is a nice line, but Topalov was a much bigger underdog in rapid against Anand at that time than Caruana is now. So I would be surprised by a repeat.Veselin Topalov via Ian and Chris wrote:"After the game Topalov said he feared playing tiebreaks on Friday the 13th as he had lost them v Kramnik in 2006 on Friday the 13th."
So far this one looks like the familiar pattern for half the games in the match - Caruana out prepares Carlsen and gets a tiny edge, Carlsen outplays Caruana in the middle game and gets a tiny edge, Carlsen misplays slightly and Caruana calculates himself out of trouble. Draw.
But I hope I'm wrong and does not go to tiebreaks

I would think Anand messing up the opening game by forgetting his opening preparation is still remembered by a few.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Mon Nov 26, 2018 4:57 pmWeirdly I found that I had no memory of that match at all. Disappointing given the position and relative times

I hadn't seen "it will be close" meaning 12 draws

Shocker with Carlsen really quite a lot better will serve him right if his speed play lets him down now.

In 29? Really? I'm looking at 31. But anyway, draw. And the entire patzersphere is WTF-ing and squawking its head off
