David still angry with himself for blowing a winning position in game four, and wants to cool down? (at this speed, he will have his chances as Black in game six too)

Hard to imagine any of the real hard men on the circuit showing weakness like that, though, if it's true.Jonathan Rogers wrote:David still angry with himself for blowing a winning position in game four, and wants to cool down? (at this speed, he will have his chances as Black in game six too)
I like Nick's explanation.

Oh dear, that went a bit wrong. Only Mickey Adams of the England contingent gets past round 1. And David gets less money, cos he will have had to pay for an extra night's stay in the hotel... (unless they do something funny with the prize money?).

Which he has. There's a few people gone home who had qualification for round two in their hands.JustinHorton wrote:González will have nightmares tonight if Harikrishna goes through.

Jobava vs Salgado Lopez is the only match to go to Armageddon.

Salgado the only winner among the fifth players who lost their fifth round games.
(Do we call it fifth round? If not, what?)

Call it the first of the shorter rapidplay games. Depends if you see 10+10 as rapidplay or blitz.
I was wrong. Jabava and Salgado play two blitz games before Armageddon.
[two rapid games (25 min + 10 sec increment),
then if necessary, two additional 10 + 10 games,
two blitz games (5 + 3) and finally, if the tie persists,
a single Armageddon game (5 minutes for White, 4 minutes for Black with draw odds.]

With an increment from move 61 which improves Black's chances for a draw.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: a single Armageddon game (5 minutes for White, 4 minutes for Black with draw odds.]

So if Mickey gets past Maxim Rodshtein in round 2, he is seeded to play Anand, Nakamura, Caruana, So and Carlsen.

Round 2 line-up can be seen here.
Dreev could be a tricky opponent for Carlsen.

I think I'd almost rather they just drew lots than played blitz. If it weren't for the fact that people would play for drawing lots, I'd definitely prefer it.
