Surely there must be better ways than a low-quality blitz to decide such an important match? The fifth playoff game, just finished, was dreadful.

Puts Shak quite close to qualifying too, as it takes Ding out of the way for 1 of the 2 spots from the GP; if MVL wins today, Shak is in

Makes the rating race between Caruana, So & Kramnik very interesting now
yes, but quite likely the one who misses out would get the wildcard, surely?
You'd hope so, but that may depend on who is paying for the Candidates to be in Berlin; I've seen it suggested that Armenia stumped up last time to give Lev the wildcard, and I think Azerbaijan paid for the London event to give Radjabov the wildcard

Fantastic.

Stupid, but fantastic.

On the whole, surely Aronian has had the better of the play today, indeed he has been quite in charge after the first game.

But he would have wanted Black, surely.

I believe the stats really favoured black when the time was 6 v 5, and moving to the 5 v 4 they are using was intended to level it out. But I'm not sure if it worked

Pleased for Aronian, he deserves another crack at the Candidates :)
