As ever, plagued by under-rated Indian juniors ... not much fun ... But normally well-run with good hotel deals as it's 50 degrees during the day so hotels are generally empty ...

Here's another masterpiece by that 13 year old Uzbeck player that Leonard enthuses about that put him on 5/7. Emil Sutovsky was also amazed "Absolutely stunning Karpovian technique by the 13 years old kid. Bd4-Ne5-d3, Be2-d1-b3, g3-h3-g4... Impressed."

Abdusattorov was born in December 2004 so is still only 12. He scored the youngest ever GM norm (11 years 10 months) at St Petersburg 2016 but cannot now break Karjakin's world age record of 12 years 7 months for the GM title.
Abdusattorov is on a 2562 TPR in Abu Dhabi with two rounds left so can achieve his second GM norm with 1.5/2.
As for the game, he already won in similar Karpovian style against Alexander Fier at St Petersburg.
Meanwhile Praggnanandhaa (age 12.0 but with no GM norms yet) is currently one of 22 players on 3/3 in the Barcelona Open. Next month he will again play in the Isle of Man Open where he won a final round miniature in 2016.

Nigel playing Bassem in last round, he needs to win to win the tournament. It's going on right now https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-tourn ... 2017/9/1/1

EDIT: Draw. Bassem is 1st with 7.5/9, Nigel 2nd with 7/9. Nigel appears to have been lost when the draw was offered.

Nigel`s draw gets him 2nd.Prize, half a point behind the winner. Still a good result.

Chess 24 Report on the tournament with that very well timed draw offer. Plus a game where Nigel managed to castle both kingside and queenside! Uzbekistan’s Nodirbek Abdusattorov as Leonard said above, at 12 years and 8 months old, can't beat Karjakin's record as the youngest ever GM but he still has a chance of doing it faster than Magnus Carlsen, who achieved it at 13 years 4 months and 27 days. At Abu Dhabi he picked up his second GM norm. Also as an update on Praggnanandhaa, he was one final round draw away from his first of three GM norms at the HZ Open, but instead lost a tough 70-move game to tournament winner Eduardo Iturrizaga.

Further AfricaChessNet report which concentrates on the winner and Africa's number 1 player, Dr Bassem Amin.
