Even at this level, most players are quick to accept invitations if the money is right. They may fear that if they decline they won't be invited the next time.

You only feel exhausted when you lose. You can feel empty after a draw but after a win always great.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

However, you won't be any less tired in the morning for that.

Oh yes I will! I sleep really well after a good win and feel like a million dollars the next day. After a bad loss (Kramnik style) I sleep badly and feel like crap the next day.

I wouldn't plan a professional schedule on that basis.

It may do Aronian some good

Caruana also plays the US Championship 9 days after Grenke and also plays Carlsen at Norway at the end of May

I do not the answer to this.

" When was the last time a Chess World Title Match was
held when both contestants were unmarried."

Unmarried = never been married.

Lasker-Schlechter 1910? Lasker's marriage to Martha was in 1911 while Schlechter possibly never married.

Thanks Richard,

Thought Kramnik was married when playing Topalov but it was after the match.

Was asked if I thought Caruana could be the next great American hero alongside Morphy and Fischer.
I replied without thinking (that is a gift I have) he's young and unmarried....
...That got me thinking about the last bachelor match.

Baseball players play every day. Pace Nick Burrows, chess is less tiring than baseball.
Starting pitchers play, on average, once every 5 days. A relief pitcher might play once every 2.5 days, but maybe only pitch 1 or 2 innings in each appearance rather than 6+. Only 5 players played in all 162 regular season games last season.

On a 25-man roster you've got 12 position players and probably your 8th- and 9th-inning guys who need to be prepared to play every day, that's more than half. And the guys who get 4 days off earn it by throwing a baseball really hard 100 times :P
