His sitting out the current team event was a bit of a clue there, perhaps. Hard to argue it isn't pretty deserved though.

So how does Palma work for MVL? I think if he wins, he's through, or if he's second, but if he's joint second (that's with just one other) he'd have to finish above Radjabov as well as have a better tiebreak than Grischuk. Somebody else can work that one out.

Radjabov for his part is home if he finishes in the top three, or joint third with one other. Anything else may involve complications.

Tell me how much I've got wrong.

I assume from that that the tiebreak is in Grischuk's favour

Bit out of date that, useful though it still is. I used the Wikipedia page on the Grand Prix, though quailed at counting up the game points (if you look at it on a smartphone you'll probably sympathise).

OK I've looked and looked and I don't see why joint 3-4 doesn't give him 100 points for a total of 341 3/7, overtaking Mamedyarov and Grischuk and permitting only MVL (and an irrelevant Ding) to get past him.

Looking at the maths (bearing in mind I'm older since yesterday's birthday and still mentally unpacking in the new house ), I think you are right that joint 3rd with 1 other would do for Radjabov

When Kramnik says "it looks like it's going to be the strongest Candidates' Tournament ever"....

1. do we think that's so?
2. do we think that's so even assuming MVL makes it?
3. do we think that's so if we include Candidates match-series?

I'd go for the one Carlsen won a few years ago as probably the strongest.
