A Chess960 (Fischer Random) match. So far there have been three draws and Magnus won the last game.

Very entertaining commentary by Yasser Seirawan etc. I think it starts at 4 pm every day. Coverage is really good. Pulse meters (which don't always work) are attached to the players. In game 4, Magnus was a respectable 85 and Hikaru a worrying 135!

Putting my own post off topic, is everyone ignoring Karpov 3.5-2.5 Hou Yifan as well?

I didn't know Karpov-Hou was a thing until recently. Naka took game one today. Carlsen didn't stay to chat about it

Something rather odd has just happened at the end of game 8.

Illegal move?

Carlsen messed up a winning ending and could only get R+B v R, which he lost on time.

I noticed he had R&B v R, but presumed impossible he would lose that on time. Are the games without increment?

Yes. Deemed more exciting by TV, I gather.

Would they have allowed 10.2/Appendix G/(whatever it's now called) claims? Not by Naka but by Carlsen so he would avoid a loss on time?

It's now called Guideline III, but I don't know.

Who knows? FIDE Laws don't necessarily apply in unofficial games. He could certainly have accepted one of Nakamura's draw offers. If he had managed to obtain a winning position, Naka would have claimed a 50 move draw, so the whole thing was absurd.

It was absurd but Carlsen's own fault nonetheless, he could easily have forced a draw when running low on time.

From the Regulations for the event:

"The games will be played in accordance with the FIDE laws of chess, including the appendix for 960 chess"

Guidelines III is not mentioned:

From Guidelines III:

"The Guidelines below concerning the final period of the game including Quickplay Finishes, shall only be used at an event if their use has been announced beforehand."

I think it's clear that Guidelines III do not apply.

(NB The title really is "Guidelines III", in the plural.)
