Jersey Polar Capital 2018
Haven't seen any discussion of this yet - Alan Merry on 5.5/6 having beaten Hebden today for a third consecutive GM victory (https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-tourn ... 2018/6/1/1) and surely one hand on the trophy already. He must be in with a very good chance of a GM norm now (would it be his first?) - happy to leave it to more qualified people to confirm but I believe his average opponents' rating, with the adjustment, is 2386 and he will have met all the requirements from opposition titled players after the next round. My calculations have his current TPR close to 2800 so it is well-placed to be over 2600 by tournament's end. If memory serves me correctly, this was the tournament Jack had a spectacular run in last year and Daniel Abbas picked up a norm too - doing a good job of churning them out, if so.

It is indeed the tournament Alan Merry and I were joint winners of last year. I'm not doing so well this year.
Daniel Abbas was half a point short of a norm last year.

Ah, so my memory doesn't quite serve me correctly! Thanks.
Jon Speelman beat Merry today, which means that first place is still very much up for grabs: Merry is on 5.5/7 with Speelman (and potentially a few others) on 5.

Thanks for alerting me to this, Matt.
Alan made his first GM norm at the Isle of Man a few years ago. A dangerous and original player!

Agreed. 1.5/2 his likely requirement for a GM norm this week.Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Thu Apr 05, 2018 6:45 pmThanks for alerting me to this, Matt.

It appears that if you search Google for Jersey chess and click on the link you get an unexpected website. However if you go to Jersey chess club.com directly there is no problem and there is no problem if you go to chess results.comPaul Dargan wrote: ↑Thu Apr 05, 2018 7:47 pmwebsite seems to have been hacked by random online pharmacy ...

Merry drew with Arkell, Tiger won so joint lead on 6/8 on the final day - both are white, Merry against L'Ami (where a win should secure the norm). Should have a good chance but she's yet to lose at the tournament, so far from a foregone conclusion by any means.

Well spotted, yes, it looks like 6/9 will do it.

Good point. The FIDE rating site shows her with one norm but the IM on her profile should have been a subtle hint that she has the titleAdam Raoof wrote: ↑Fri Apr 06, 2018 8:11 pmI think she is already an IMLawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Fri Apr 06, 2018 7:13 pmShe also secured her second IM norm today.Matt Best wrote: ↑Fri Apr 06, 2018 7:07 pmMerry drew with Arkell, Tiger won so joint lead on 6/8 on the final day - both are white, Merry against L'Ami (where a win should secure the norm).
