A nine round event with Round 1 starting on Sunday 27 May with two rest days and the final round on Thursday 7 June. Unfortunately the superstrong field headed by Carlsen all seem to be suffering with severe dandruff. Let's hope that clears up quickly.

Super-strong tournaments haven't always been the most interesting recently, so let's hope this one doesn't fit that pattern

It must be a while since Vishy Anand was the theoretical "bunny"...

Actually today's play (according to chess24) starts at 1400 BST and it is NOT round one but the blitz tournament to decide who gets five Whites in the main draw.

Good fun, as always - why, there have even been some games when White has not played b3 or g3 in the first five moves...

Trust that Reti, Nimzo and Larsen are all enjoying this from above!

It it hard to believe that Magnus Carlsen has out-blundered Loris Karius.

Carlsen's apparent move has brought back painful memories of how I fell for that idea in the London Junior Chess Championships 1966-67. I can't recall having made the same error since.
