According to
http://chess-results.com/tnr368908.aspx ... NG&flag=30
there are 185 Open teams of which 7 (Nigeria, Pakistan, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, Somalia, Burundi, Congo) are either no-shows or late arrivals.

The team seeded 175 plays the team seeded 185, so presumably a team thought not present turned out to be so.

I suppose finding out who is present and who isn't is what can keep the pairing team up to 2 am.

Interesting board order from Seychelles open team. Not sure you'd get away with that at NCL.

"I've probably lived a rather modest life, but this is the first time I have ever had a hotel room with its own sauna."

Wow!

Guernsey have a female player in the "Open" team, which is good.

Ben beat me to it on the Seychelles board order...

The top board player was born in 2003 and doesn't show up as having played much rated chess, so the rating could be way out of date. The 4NCL rules allow converted ECF grades to be substituted where the FIDE rating is not thought suitable for deciding board orders.

There isn't an "order of strength" or "order of rating" rule for Olympiads. Rather you just have to use the same order throughout.

I may be missing something, but should I be surprised by Uganda's board order?
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

It's in rating order with their IM on 1.

2.1 IM Ssegwanyi, Arthur 2347 - GM Karjakin, Sergey 2760
2.2 FM Kawuma, Patrick 2329 - GM Nepomniachtchi, Ian 2768
2.3 Okas, Walter 2258 - GM Vitiugov, Nikita 2726
2.4 FM Nsubuga, Haruna 2222 - GM Jakovenko, Dmitry 2747

Oh how weird, the Chess24 screen seems to have many of the fixtures in its righthand column running upside down, as it were.

It's the same on chessbomb, Nick top of the list for the England - Angola match. Probably a glitch in the set up of the DGT boards.

Silva's 8. h3 has to an extent turned the board round and given Nick the white pieces. It's a reversed Fianchetto Kings Indian. I think Nick plays the White side of this against the Kings Indian regularly.

I'm happy to see Nick Pert on 2. It makes sense to have the solid players at the top, and let the others play their natural game.

You may be pleased to see him there, but he isn't there.

He's on 4 though according to the pairing software. They've got the board numbers back to front on the relays. At least they've got the players and matches correctly labelled.

Well at least I am no longer disappointed I didn't get round to suggesting this last week...

It would have been a somewhat radical solution to what is England's biggest problem (board two), time after time.

Sounds like our cricket team. I do hope Mickey isn't about to announce his retirement.
