Discussing Luke's game. In English.

Akshaya had a very large advantage but it went missing on move 32 and she's now struggling.

Well, it might be another Brazil style turnaround - Gawain now likely to salvage another draw (this time from an utterly terrible position, but where the opponent tried to finish it too quickly) and Luke has real winning chances - fortune favours the brave perhaps being the motto there.
What has Carlsen been saying about Luke's game?

Kudos to Luke, who finds 42. g4! Very nice day's work - a "human" game of chess!

All I really caught (they're now on another game) was that he thought White misplayed it before Black fell apart.

Re: Batumi Olympiad
We might be looking at a lot of draws near the top (very probably in Germany v Netherlands and Czech Republic v Israel, also Azerbaijan v Poland) while to beat China Ukraine need Eljanov to find a way through against Wei Yi, which Magnus thinks he will without too much trouble, but Eljanov may think it's harder than that. India should scrape home against Egypt.

Luke's beaten Flores, who had a 2900+ performance after beating Eljanov amongst others (he's only had 1 white in 6 games too)
Gawain's good at defending, isn't he?

Anyone interested can just click on the red bar at the bottom of the video and drag it along to restart the commentary at an earlier point.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Mon Oct 01, 2018 3:51 pmAll I really caught (they're now on another game) was that he thought White misplayed it before Black fell apart.

Magnus wasn't impressed with 31.b4 in McShane's game, thought he should have played for two results with 31.Red1. (via Chess24 on Twitter)
Turned out well for Luke in the end though!

In the Women's, the US are finally going to get beaten today, though Krush unbeaten against and Yu should win again. China have won and UKraine, for whom Usheshina was rested, should win if Muzychuk M can win a knight ending a pawn up.

Russia drew their two Blacks against Serbia but aren't favourite by any manner of means and it may be be that Jakovenko has to save this if they are to avoid defeat.
EDIT: but no! Roganovic allows Kramnik one of his recent-trademark late-endgame wins from nowhere...

I was thinking of it from a White's point of view a bit, one of thiose games where you're all over them but you just can't quite see how to turn the trick and exchange it all off just before the time control.

It can be played both with d3 and d4. I was told by someone who had used the trap with success that Simon Williams had drawn attention to it.
