David now winning so England edging closer to their best result in years.
I will be very happy if we beat our seeding. David will deserve a lot of the credit.

I'm going to estimate 7th (seeded 9).

So if USA and China draw, and Poland and Russia win, how long do we potentially wait for to find out the order after the tie-breaks are calculated? Until the end of the round?
Yes.

Draw for Luke

It may seem trite to say that England beat everyone they might have expected to beat, drew the match that was most likley to be drawn, and lost to the better teams. But the point can be stretched further - assuming that Gawain survives today, in not a single one of their matches will both sides have won a game! How unusual is that?

He has only himself to blame for that dull line being so popular!

Anna Muzychik beats Anna Zatonskih.

Worth seeing the computer assessments at the end of that one, by the way.

Given that we're always going to play more teams that we're 'expected to beat' that's generally going to be a good result. The win against Israel is obviously the stand-out result where I would argue 2-2 still the most likely scoreline before the match. The biggest change from recent events for me is that while not everyone has been on 'top form' none of the 4 regulars has been completely off form.

Luke was at the start, I think.

Not unsurprising perhaps but quite reasonable overall.

Any point trying to calculate the tiebreaks for England? Or is it not a simple calculation? (Thomas Rendle estimated 7th place above.)

And was there anything that might have made a difference in the match against Russia?

Take at look at the current standings and work out who we're going to leap-frog. Probably 4-5 teams.

Drawing with a lower rated player in the first round did nothing for Luke's rating, certainly. But a very solid performance on board 2. As as we were discussing 50 pages ago, this is not something we can take for granted

Well you can say that England will climb above all four teams if Germany draw with Armenia and Ukraine draw with the Czechs (assuming England win, which is not yet done and dusted).

...and cheer for 2-2 in Ukraine-Czech Republic (unlikely).
