Hi, another point; Andy is not from Marple, he's from Didsbury, Manchester; he plays for 3Cs (Manchester League & 4NCL) and Marple (Stockport League) when he's home from universityLeonard Barden wrote: ↑Sat Jun 30, 2018 10:46 amThe typo has been corrected, thanks to Loz for pointing it out.LawrenceCooper wrote: ↑Sat Jun 30, 2018 9:42 amYes, a welcome positive report on England's young players albeit Daniel is born in 1995 and definitely not 27!Chris Rice wrote: ↑Sat Jun 30, 2018 9:34 amNice piece Chess: Trio of young English experts impress at Pula Open in Croatia by Leonard Barden in the Guardian online:

Not a bad haul in the end. I'm a very proud "chess big brother", and the IM title couldn't have come to two nicer or more deserving people than Joe and (my ex-schoolmate) Andy. Greatly appreciate the forum support as well!

Dan & Joe moved on to play in Paracin along with Andy's brother Jamie, Matthew Wadsworth & Daniel Lea, with an excellent performance from Marcus Harvey
Justin Tan won, and according to Ian Rogers, becomes Australia's 8th GM

Do you have a link to anything online by Ian Rogers on this?Mick Norris wrote: ↑Sat Jul 14, 2018 7:12 pmJustin Tan won, and according to Ian Rogers, becomes Australia's 8th GM

I found Shaun Press's post:

"The norm comes weeks after he discovered the norm he had scored in the recently completed 4NCL was invalid."
Did that 4NCL point get discussed anywhere here?

Re: Pula Open (Croatia) 2018
I don’t think so, but presumably what happened is that it was missed that the exemption on playing certain numbers/proportions of foreign players for the 4NCL only exists for English players. He played 8/9 ENG which invalidated the norm(has to be max 2/3). Looking at the FIDE site this regulation change (exemption only exists for host country applicants) only seems to have been made in the July 2017 revision to the regulations.Christopher Kreuzer wrote: ↑Sun Jul 15, 2018 12:43 amDo you have a link to anything online by Ian Rogers on this?Mick Norris wrote: ↑Sat Jul 14, 2018 7:12 pmJustin Tan won, and according to Ian Rogers, becomes Australia's 8th GM
