Ravi leads by half a point going into today's penultimate round; he plays his second GM today; if he gets another tomorrow is a GM norm possible?
English players
round 8 live at 3:30 pm UK time; round 9 tomorrow at 10 am UK time

No. Average of opposition has to be at least 2380.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 7:49 amRavi leads by half a point going into today's penultimate round; he plays his second GM today; if he gets another tomorrow is a GM norm possible?

Ravi has played in an incredible number of tournaments is the past 8-10 months...if he continues at this rate I expect he will be a GM before the end of 2018 . He is Cavendish's new star player as well as our youngest player by several decades!

I hope you are right and confess to some bias as his final IM norm and first GM norm both came for my 4NCL team in 2016-17. One of the challenges he does face is finding tournaments where there are realistic chances of a norm. He starts university in October which sadly rules him out of a norm opportunity at the European Club Cup.Martin Crichton wrote: ↑Fri Jun 29, 2018 1:10 pmRavi has played in an incredible number of tournaments is the past 8-10 months...if he continues at this rate I expect he will be a GM before the end of 2018 . A round 8 draw for Joe means that playing a 2220 or higher should be a norm tomorrow.Mick Norris wrote: ↑Wed Jun 27, 2018 10:57 pmJoe is white tomorrow v Dan Fernandez who was with Joe in both the Hungarian events so a quick draw might be possible
Andy has black v an IM which takes him closer to the titled player requirement
My view this morning was they could both draw their way to the norm Fingers crossed they get there
Lots of hard work by both of them to get to this point

Cheers Loz; I assume that means Joe is there even with a loss?
Does Andy need to win?

Andy's facing an effective 2323 field, making his norm target 5½/8. He needs a draw.

Nice piece Chess: Trio of young English experts impress at Pula Open in Croatia by Leonard Barden in the Guardian online:
"Success in Pula reflects well on the English Chess Federation’s elite programme, which provides an annual grant to the best talents to be spent on coaching, books, or travel to tournaments and which has benefited all the winning group in Croatia."

Yes, a welcome positive report on England's young players albeit Daniel is born in 1995 and definitely not 27!Chris Rice wrote: ↑Sat Jun 30, 2018 9:34 amNice piece Chess: Trio of young English experts impress at Pula Open in Croatia by Leonard Barden in the Guardian online:
