Don't get me wrong, I smiled too. The reason because it keeps getting recycled is because it *is* funny ;)

Anyway, the chess.......

That gag has been done several times (and not just regarding football)
You might call it a gag but Sir Geoffrey Boycott was perfectly serious!
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Carlsen halved out with Svidler today and is tied with Mamedyarov who beat MVL. However, it was still Carlsen's 15 Bb5 idea that stole the show.

Round 4:
1 GM Mamedyarov (2½) 2808 - GM Svidler, P. (2) 2760
2 GM Georgiadis (0) 2527 - GM Carlsen, M. (2½) 2843
3 GM Navara, David (1½) 2727 - GM Vachier-Lagr. (½) 2789

Just what you want to see when you have scored 0/3.......

It's stone-cold drawn, even if I were White. Carlsen is just being a pain in the arras

England's sole representative in Biel (me) is now on 2/3 in the Main Tournament. (I thought I would slip that in while I'm still ahead of the game.)

Well done Mike! Keep going...

"Reminds me of the apocryphal story when Sir Robert Charlton was asked how he thought the 1966 team would fare against the 1996 Euro team ... he thought it would be around even - but of course the members of the 1966 team "would be in their late 50s and 60s now""

Bradman did the same joke as well!

What a difference 24 hours can make. Today, backmarker Georgiadis became the first sub-2600 to draw with Carlsen since Sadorra in Baku in 2016 and Caruana gets completely smashed 20.5-6.5 by Aronian in a Speed Chess Challenge. So much for the 1&2 players in the world being in peak form!
I do remember Karpov back in his heyday complaining that every game was tough for him as World Champion as a player having a 'mare in a tournament could completely redeem themselves in the eyes of the chess world with a result against him.

Round 5 with a monster 2800 clash:
1 GM Svidler, P. (2½) 2760 - GM Navara, David (2) 2727
2 GM Vachier-Lagr. (1) 2789 - GM Georgiadis (½) 2527
3 GM Carlsen, M. (3) 2843 - GM Mamedyarov (3) 2808

I think it is generally accepted that if Caruana wishes to win the WC match he should try to do it in normal time.
