European Club Cup 11-19 October 2018
Re: European Club Cup 11-19 October 2018
Interesting point on engine evaluations arising here. In the position Roger gives above, Svidler-Carlsen continued: 40...Nxd5; 41 Kxd5 h5; 42 c6
SF8 required 42...a5 for equality; all else, far worse. But Carlsen played 42...a6 which SF8 red-lined at [+13.5] on 29-ply BUT SF9, Sesse and others gave [0.00]. And that's the right call

Yeah. A clear horizon effect. Once one more half move had been played (43.a4), SF8 came up with a correct evaluation of 0.00.David Robertson wrote: ↑Thu Oct 18, 2018 5:17 pmInteresting point on engine evaluations arising here. Despite having a pretty bad time himself, it's Svidler's team that wins the ECC Open. British successes were Wood Green seeded 29th who finished 21st and Grantham Sharks seeded 42nd finishing 33rd, the others finishing pretty much in line with their seeding. In the women's second seeds Monte Carlo won. Don't think we saw Carlsen at his best during this tournament and afterwards he was clearly very relieved that he held on to the number 1 spot before the big match.

A shame that Wood Green weren't able to convert their positions today, 8th place would have been quite amazing.Chris Rice wrote: ↑Thu Oct 18, 2018 9:29 pmDespite having a pretty bad time himself, it's Svidler's team that wins the ECC Open. Carlsen played Donchenko (Ger) 2610 in Round 4. This was Carlsen's scoresheet:

That is acceptable. I would be quite happy to invite Carlsen to a tournament in which I was the game-inputter.
