The armageddon game also ended in a draw (which obviously suited So as black) but took longer than the classic game

An increment of as little as two seconds cuts through it. The trouble is that the people with the money - ie the St Louis crowd and now the Norwegians - seem to view this shambles as a feature not a bug. Perhaps they know their paying audience, but top players will have to get used to their role as well fed and watered circus animals.

Anand's blunder led to a decisive standard play game.

And at local level, when we argue at AGMs in favour of increments, the elite level shambles doesn't help

Grischuk made the comment that he accepted the invite, so he can't complain. But that's the point, if organisers are going to throw money at the top players, and the top players are prepared to turn up and play, then so it goes.

But that's like most sports. The Hundred wouldn't be a thing if counties weren't getting a huge chunk of the £1.3m broadcast deal, even though the great unwashed have expressed no particular desire on social media to watch a 100-ball cricket competition.

Even though increments are *not* being used here?

We argue against QP finishes, and people who don't want to change say, well they don't use increments in Norway/St Louis
