Chess player sanctioned
“Whilst it is a generalisation, of course, I do find women tend to be more emotional than men. That is, I believe, a biological fact rather than an insult.”

“I have heard from very competent women barristers that they don’t feel they are getting the big cases that their skills and experiences deserve when compared with the men,” said Baroness Hale, president of the Supreme Court, who presented the prizes for the ECF Book of the Year.

I didn't know that, but am pleased to know it. Was this the 2021 award?John Foley wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 3:41 am“I have heard from very competent women barristers that they don’t feel they are getting the big cases that their skills and experiences deserve when compared with the men,” said Baroness Hale, president of the Supreme Court, who presented the prizes for the ECF Book of the Year.

Hard to answer this, Nick, without knowing whether you perceive those "best efforts" as being directed at Baroness Hale personally or at all female judges/barristers. It is certainly true, for example, that Lady Hale (as she then was) was only the fourth woman to be appointed to the UK Supreme Court.NickFaulks wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 9:49 pmNonetheless, despite the best efforts of the male establishment.Roger Lancaster wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 9:41 pmBut, as Nick knows perfectly well, as a judge and not a barrister

This is well out of date; the 'male establishment' has been making strenuous efforts to get more women on the bench for some time.

I probably made my point too obscurely.
If there is a male establishment keeping women out of important legal decisions then, in the particular case of Brenda Hale, they did a pretty poor job of it.

I'm sure that the list of four will be revealed in this place.

Corrected. I should have said "one of only four women", along with Lady Black, Lady Arden and Lady Rose.Jonathan Rogers wrote: ↑Sun Mar 13, 2022 3:48 pmThe first.Roger Lancaster wrote: ↑Mon Feb 14, 2022 3:50 pm....
