NZ Women's Champion

Post by Carl Gorka » Sat Jan 02, 2010 2:37 pm

At the NZ Championships currently being held they are giving the National Women's title to the top scoring female player in the Major tournament, as averse to the the top scoring female in the Championship.

Helen Milligan is the only woman playing in the NZ Championship but is inelligible to become Women's Champion, because the title will go to the top player in the tournament below the one she is in!!!

A very odd situation which appears to place the Women's Championship significantly below the Men's Championship.

Is it a Men's and Women's Championship, or a Open and Women's Championship?

There are no seperate women's events. The tournament consists of a Championship closed to players above a certain rating, and Major and Minor limited ratings events. One woman is playing in the Championship, others are playing in the limtied ratings events, but the Woman's Champion will be given to the highest placed woman in the Major even though a woman is playing in the Championship itself.

Oh, OK. I think this is an early candidate for organisational blunder of the year...
