The end of the interview neatly summed up the challenge facing us in raising the profile of chess: "That was Sarah Hegarty who's just represented England at the chess Olympiad in Siberia. [With increasing amazement] Who knew such things happened?"

Sarah came across pretty well. (The interviewer clearly struggled with the idea that a strong chessplayer could sound just like a "normal" student, though.)
