That was a strong Surrey Open team vs Yorkshire!

Have Cleveland ever won anything before? Huge result for them to win 10-6 giving away 100 pts/board.

Looks like Cleveland won the U140 and U125 in 1997 as well as the U100 in 2001.

Being able to sustain playing strength to over 2100 all the way down to board 16 is what won Surrey the match (they won the bottom four boards).

Yeah harsh on Sussex if we went Cov/Brum neutral venue for all 3 of the distant ones ..presume Cambridge venue for Lincs vs Sussex as about 105 miles each
I gather it's Warwick University except for the local clashes

Details of the Finals venues are available on the ECF website.

Note that the Open final has been moved to 29 June to accommodate England representation at the World Seniors.

I didn't really understand what Chris Briscoe was up to on board 13 for Surrey.
Unless it was a phone loss, he resigned in this position.

It's worse for Black, but not worse than you might expect when you meet 1. d4 with 1. .. h5

It's annoying when no explanation is available, particularly if the non-game decides the match.
However, although the score is 4-4, the computer assessment of the remaining games is around 6-2 to Surrey, plus the better board count.

Pretty much as expected once Northumberland had agreed to the change of date

Congratulations to Surrey

The Surrey player on board 13 lost by leaving the playing venue in a FIDE rated game.

Why remains unclear. I assume it wasn't despair at his own choice of opening, as he's played either 1...a5 or 1...h5 routinely on lichess this year.

Was it a violation obvious to anyone, e.g. going outside, or a less obvious one like not using the correct toilets? (The 4NCL has done this, declaring the toilets nearest the playing rooms to be within the playing venue, but those a few yards further down the corridor to be out of bounds, for no obviously good reason.)
