Fantastic event today at the Legion at Swinton, with three Manchester teams taking on Yorkshire. The Yorkshire u1450s won a tight game 6.5 to 5.5, with an excellent spread of food on. Very tight still with the remaining u2050 and u1650 games. Thank you Damien and team for hosting.

Really nice venue and 36 players.

Also Noticed in the U1650 game, Manchester had a Sir playing on board 1 for Manchester

But glad history has been made today

I said I wouldn't believe it until I saw that Manchester had actually played an NCCU County Match. I am pleased to say that I believe it now.

Your post is magnanimous, as is appropriate today. But make sure that Yorkshire don't beat you for too long.

We are hosting the u1850s at Holmfirth next week and the open team (venue tbc) at the back end of Jan. Plenty of scope for revenge!

Brilliant The two other teams in the open competition are hugely tough, but Manchester certainly have the players to make those matches rather close.

Probably more so than in the U2050's on paper actually - all the 3C's players trained past that level Yorkshire's huge player base means we could probably fill the team with players between 2050 and 2000. Not that we do - if nothing else it would be a near impossible job to captain, with so much change in players every year!

I also note Cleveland and Northumberland both managing to get out U2050 teams. Cleveland doing so is a very pleasant surprise indeed. A good chance for Manchester to quality for the K/O stages of the U2050, you'd think - I guess the NCCU get two spots?

A sporting choice of venue too, you're not sending them to Whitby e.g.

Hah, didn't even know he played! And active only very recently according to the ECF rating site.

(though I would thus presume he did do some serious chess when younger)

Whitby would be a frighteningly long distance from a substantial majority of Yorkshire's population too you know Looks a very nice venue that.

I have wondered about where the first Manchester - Lancashire match hosted by Lancashire might be played! Coniston?

York/Lancs has always been Heywood or Bradford ish. Calderdale is obviously even more convenient for everyone.
