revisions on SCCU website

Changes to the SCCU entrants in the U120 & Minor, with a revised preliminary draw in the latter, plus confirmation of the NCCU teams in the U160

The confirmed draw for 2016 can be found here http://www.oxfordfusion.com/oca/index.cfm?Org=4 and was emailed to all captains last Friday. Hopefully it should be up on the ECF website shortly.

A few notes;

In the Open the finalists from last year, Yorkshire and Kent, meet as early as the quarter finals. The same is true of the U180 where Middlesex meet Devon. In the U120 Nottinghamshire, the 2014 champions, did not qualify for the national stages last year but are back in the action for 2016.

Two results from Whittlesford this afternoon.

(1) In the U160 quarter final played 4 weeks early, Essex beat Cambridgeshire 9½ - 6½.

(2) Kent beat Lincolnshire on board count in the U120 preliminary round.

Wow, that is early! I don't think the Yorks v G Man 1/4 final has been completely sorted yet - still, gives you a chance to reserve a provisional semi-final venue I guess

Cornwall 5½ - 10½ Lincolnshire in the Minor Counties preliminary round, so Essex now know their quarter-final opponents in this competition.

Yorks v GMan U160 will be Sunday 22 May I am told

Surrey v Norfolk U160 prelim 12½-3½.

Yorkshire - Kent (open) on the same date, I presume different venue! Not sure where this liking for Sundays has come from. Makes public transport much harder.

Good luck to Norfolk in the next round. They beat Nottinghamshire 9-7 in the Minor Counties. The score was 7-7 but Notts needed 1.5 from the remaining two games (8-8 would have been a win to Norfolk on boardcount). The venue, Sawtry Old School House, was excellent. A match played in a good spirit, an advert for county chess.

U160 - Notts 7.5 Surrey 8.5 - down to the last board where Notts required a win. The position was clearly drawn but the Notts player went down trying for the whole point which wasn't there.

Under 140 Notts 9.5 Hertfordshire 6.5 Despite defaulting a board (a text confirms the player forgot about the match ),other than this Notts lost just the bottom two boards - good result for our most consistent team.

Under 120 Notts 8 Surrey 4 E-mail sent at 02.33 this morning "can't play" - so this morning when I woke up spent ringing frantically for replacements. Then found the away side conceding two boards - Notts cruised through taking a 6.5-1.5 lead.

Three Notts teams into the semi-finals; two out.

Semi-finals will be:

U100: Kent v Lancs; Essex/Leics v Notts

U120: Norfolk v Notts; Herts v Warks

U140: Lancs/Derbys v Surrey; Notts v Kent/Worcs

U160: Surrey v Middlesex/Lancs: Essex v Yorks/G Man (playing at Halifax at 1 pm today)

U180: Warks/Surrey v Lancs; Devon v Essex

Minor: Lincs v Cambs; Norfolk v Suffolk

Open: Yorks/Kent v Surrey; Middlesex v Staffs

Yorkshire U160s defeat Greater Manchester 9.5-6.5

Sounds about right based on the team we had out, would have been worse if our first reserve had been needed
