Has anyone received details of arrangements for the Finals yet?

No, because I haven't sent any.

To be fair, the rules are on the website, and there's really not much more I need to add beyond what the rules say.

Presumably there's some reason why the calendar says "details pending..."?

There's always a reason. The reason here is that I didn't know that was in the calendar.

The reason for not sending anything is because I have been very busy with various other tournaments and life things in the past week or two, and in fact arranging the arbiting team, the live board transmission, trophies, equipment... Section G of the rules should cover most matters. I see now that the venue for the Finals haven't been published in the rules.

Only so many hours in a day. Information coming captains' way tonight.

Any reason not to delegate some of it to say the arbiting team?

Hope it goes well & may watch a live board if I decide not to play chess on that day.

Yes, all of the things listed above is my job as the Organiser. It'd be like asking a cricket scorer to make sure the sightscreens are in the right place, and that the stumps are in the ground.

Message now sent, so hopefully that should satisfy everyone.

i do know that Lancashire will be putting a strong team out,

I'm not in the u140 team as there team has been picked, with the same 16 players and 3 reserves also on the list :(

It's the way of the chess world that we don't say this as often as we should, but your hard work on many fronts is noticed and much appreciated, Alex.

Absolutely agree with Jonathan's post.

"i do know that Lancashire will be putting a strong team out, ", John Reyes

Assuming Lancashire Tigers are still typically/ on average outgraded by 10 points per board, I do hope all the Lancashire players remember to play like Tigers (maximising the probability of winning their game) rather than the awesome Yorshire Heffalumps ( maximising the probability of not losing) from the first move: until they change their mind , if appropriate.

I trust Middlesex will have a close but uneventful U180 win against Devon again.

John was referring to the u140 team, I believe. They play Nottinghamshire and let me put terror into the minds of the Notts players by informing them that to outgun Lancashire by on average 10 points per board will not (legally) be possible!

I expect Yorkshire will ecky thump Lancs.
Devon to put on a performance good enough to beat the 3rd SCCU qualifier in the U180s.
Suggest that Ian does not play 1.b3 to surprise his opponent.
Hampstead will be weaker this weekend but hopefully I'll find a devon cream tea shop as well as some good local Middlesex beer.
Hopefully Notts will not fall to the Morecombe magician's trickery.
Thanks to Alex for all his hard work over the season.

Hi Nick, I'm currently imbibing Badger's Fursty Ferret, a Dorset ale. Readers may make of that what they wish but, as usual, I'm completely neutral. John

I like that! Can I have the title permanently? But I think if it's a title "magician" should be given the dignity of a capital letter.
I also have to confess shamefacedly that I was born in Nottingham and one of the only two chess trophies I have is for "Nottinghamshire under 14 1964-5"
