I've been looking at another Premier Fantasy Football League called Chess Players. There is some crossover with our league but most of the teams are not playing in Premier Chess. They have about 1/3 of our membership and their leading team trails our top five. If there are any more exclusive chess playing leagues let me know.
I think this one is all chess players: https://fantasy.premierleague.com/a/lea ... 12/classic "Veni, Vidi, Vici"

Week 16

As if to annoy everyone the Premier League has shoved another set of midweek fixtures in - starting tonight. A therefore rather curtailed report about Week 16.

Adam Hunt is an unlikely top scorer with 74 points despite his lowly place on Page 2 whilst 13 points proved unlucky for Dominic Rabbitte whose Captain Aguero and Vice-Captain Hart were conspicuous by their absence. Absolutely no changes at the top as our five leaders maintained their positions.

1 Harley Hotspurs Andrew Harley 42 923
2 Discovered Cech Michael Ashworth 60 921
3 Despicable Mee Robert Ashworth 66 921
4 Ctrl Alt De Laet Adam Bremner 62 917
5 Misery loves Kompany Paul Cooksey 63 913

Fantasy Cup We've started a week earlier this year so over 4,000,000 teams enter the first round draw. If your side scored 34 or above in Week 16 you're in the draw. So we've lost a handful of teams - follow progress in forthcoming weeks!

Week 17

Will Sparky Hughes be the next manager to be given the Order of the Boot? One thing is certain, if he goes Stoke won't be appointing Tony Pulis - though dafter things have happened.

Meanwhile to prove what goes up must come down top scorer Adam Hunt in Week 16 becomes this week's No 72 out of 72 with a mediocre 20 points - top gun this week is Graham Mill-Wilson with 73 points. After five weeks of "No change" in the top five we lose Adam Bremner whose place is taken by Sam Herring. Sam was a frontrunner for most of 2016/17 but faded towards the end of the season. Can he mount a challenge this time round?

1 Harley Hotspurs Andrew Harley 53 976
2 Misery loves Kompany Paul Cooksey 52 965
3 = Discovered Cech Michael Ashworth 42 963
3= Despicable Mee Robert Ashworth 42 963
3= Smez XI Sam Herring 70 963

More next time.

Week 18

With the funds we have available we can strengthen the squad and end up being a better team, Paul Clement Aug 2017

As forecast in Week 14 No doubt that the next managerial sacking (Clement at Swansea) replacement will be "never relegated" Tony Pulis.
Rumour has it that Clements will be replaced by any one of a number of Premier Division "has beens" such as Karanka, Koeman, Bilic, van der Gaal but oddly enough not Pulis whose style (ie keeping teams up) is said not to suit Swansea.

Adam Bremner is back with a revenge along with Peter Staneland who hasn't graced the top five since Week 10. Richard Beach top scores with 88 with John Garnett's 31 the bottom marker of the week.

1 Harley Hotspurs Andrew Harley 54 1030
2 Ctrl Alt De Laet Adam Bremner 68 1025
3 Discovered Cech Michael Ashworth 51 1014
4 Despicable Mee Robert Ashworth 49 1012
5 GoalsGalore Peter Staneland 66 1007

Up for the Cup Into the third week of play and only thirteen Premier Chess teams remain. Grant Bucher is the highest placed and Will Place the lowest. If normal elimination rules apply all our teams should be K.O'd by Week 23. :(

I had an unexpected reprieve from my 64-63 defeat on discovering that my opponent had clocked up -24 for excessive transfers :shock:

Week 19

Good managers make good sides. There’s no such thing as a side making a manager” Brian Clough. Thought for the day above - are there any other managers in line for the sack?

So here we are at the half-way point of the season; after a high scoring week (courtesy of Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero) 23 teams have passed the 1,000 point mark. Top team Andrew Harley's "Harley Hotspurs" will soon have opened a gap of over 500 to bottom marker Alana Deyes "Pjanic at the Disco. Before anyone refers me to Gavin Carter's team, I need to point out that this was a Week 7 entry. No one quite reached the 100 point mark with Jonathan Blackburn weighing in with 91 points (key contributions from Kane, Sterling and Chopou-Moting) whilst the lightweight team of the week was Heath MacGregor's with 33 points.

1 Harley Hotspurs Andrew Harley 84 1114
2 Ctrl Alt De Laet Adam Bremner 76 1101
3= Discovered Cech Michael Ashworth 75 1089
3= Smez XI Sam Herring 90 1089
5 GoalsGalore Peter Staneland 81 1088

Up for the Cup Eight managers survive - five go out. The overall Premier Fantasy Football leader now has 1267 points so 153 ahead of our top scorer - just 2 of the top 10 managers are English.

Week 20

‘People will say that Swansea need a miracle to stay up, but I don’t agree’ Carlos Carvalval appointed manager of Swansea days after being sacked by Sheffield Wednesday.

The 100 point barrier was broken for the first time this season in Week 20; Richard Beach, Nathan Talbot and Peter Staneland all reached triple figures but the gold medal performance goes to Bob Clark whose team Penyffordd Pirates scored a giant 112 points with a subsequent move of over 900,000 places in the overall ratings. For those of you interested Penyffordd Chess Club is based in North Wales and play in the Chester & District Chess League. Alana Deyes low scored again with 22 points. Just five points separate the top four teams.

1. Harley Hotspurs Andrew Harley 73 1187
2. Smez XI Sam Herring 96 1185
3 Ctrl Alt De Laet Adam Bremner 81 1182
3= GoalsGalore Peter Staneland 102 1182
5 Discovered Cech Michael Ashworth 71 1160

Meanwhile just five teams remain in Up for the Cup Three including Lawrence Cooper have now been k.o'd - the remaining captains are Alex Bullen, Mark Leonard, Andrew Garside, Alan Tate and Will Place.

Quarter 2 report - Weeks 11-20

As suggested in our review of Quarter 1 the number of teams who graced the top five places rapidly diminished so that only nine captains made an appearance in Quarter Two of which two were just for one week. Consequently the leader for seven of the ten weeks was Andrew Harley and he was the sole manager to figure in every match week. However as we reach Quarter Three there are several teams right behind Andrew including his closest challenger over this quarter Adam Bremner and fast scoring Sam Herring and Peter Staneland. The usual figures apply (5 points for a 1st place down to 1 pt for fifth, number of weeks in brackets),

1. Harley Hotspurs Andrew Harley 45 pts (10)
2. Ctrl Alt De Laet Adam Bremner 32 pts (9)
3. Discovered Cech Michael Ashworth 30 pts (9)
4. Misery loves Kompany Paul Cooksey 15 pts (7)
5 Despicable Mee Robert Ashworth 14 pts (7)
6 Smez XI Sam Herring 10 pts (3)
7 GoalsGalore Peter Staneland 7 pts (3)

Week 21

I was away for Week 21 and unable to post on the forum but I did manage to list the leaders and here they are:-

1. GoalsGalore Peter Staneland 79 1261
2. Harley Hotspurs Andrew Harley 59 1246
3. Smez XI Sam Herring 54 1235
4 Ctrl Alt De Laet Adam Bremner 47 1229
5 Discovered Cech Michael Ashworth 62 1222

As you can see there was a shuffling of deckchairs but the top five that appeared in Week 19 remain firmly in place. A full report for Week 22 including Up for the Cup or more precisely Out of the Cup will appear in the next few days. No hurry as this Weekend is FA Cup Round 3 where Premier teams take on a totally different look whilst facing the might of the lower divisions (or in some cases each other).

Week 22

Why would I seek reassurance? I don't need it Mark Hughes (January 4th). January 6th - Stoke sack Mark Hughes

In the never ending roundabout of management sackings and the same old faces returning, Stoke are looking to Quique Sanchez Flores, the ex-Watford manager, as replacement for Sparky Hughes. Karanka is back at Forest - perhaps Ranieri will be returning soon! We've kept predicting all the sacking of Premier managers - next on our list is Mauricio Pellegrino of Southampton.

On now to more mundane matters - A two fat ladies score of 88 from Mark Page was best of the week whilst Neil Jamieson found points thin on the ground for the week's low score of 27. The top five teams again remain unchanged with just some more shuffling around of positions.

1 GoalsGalore Peter Staneland 50 1311
2 Smez XI Sam Herring 63 1294
3 Harley Hotspurs Andrew Harley 54 1292
4 Discovered Cech Michael Ashworth 69 1291
5 Ctrl Alt De Laet Adam Bremner 58 1287

Up for the Cup As we reach Week 23 Alex Bullen, Mark Leonard and Will Place are still hanging in there; the latter who appears to have lost interest in September by an amazing run of luck. Finally I note a new team seeking entry to the League. I have normally closed entrance by this time and will be doing so immediately.
