Week 8

Manchester United have apparently set up a call centre for fans who are troubled by their current form. The number is 0800 10 10 10. Calls charged at peak rate for overseas users. Once again the number is 0800 won nothing won nothing won nothing. From the net.

There is some consolation for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in that he is only the second favourite for the Premier Division next sacking - at 9/4; Everton's Marco Silva is 7/10 for the chop. Any deluded soul with money to burn can elect for Klopp or Guardiola currently both at 100/1. For the first time this season there is no change in the top five, though they have shuffled around a little. In one of those remarkable turnarounds we sometimes see, Sabrina Chevannes (low scorer in two weeks) moved to the top of the heap with 64 points whilst bottom of the pile was Nick London with 16 points - still without a goalkeeper.

So what is a pygarg? A pygarg is an animal mentioned in the Bible in Deuteronomy. It has been identified as a type of gazelle or antelope.

Week 9

I'll learn so much from David Luiz Calum Chambers. Doubtful if defending was one of the lessons.

It was not a week of high scores as can be seen from the selection below - Marcus Alonso (Chelsea) was top player of the week with 14 points - the lowest of the season so far. Samuel Milson who mustered 58 points was in the crow's nest whilst I am sorry to say that pumping out the bilges was my team with a sodden 22 points. My defenders couldn't defend, my attackers couldn't score, my midfielders couldn't assist and I spent 4 points in bringing in Heung-Min Son as captain only for him to appear as substitute. Lets hope for better this time.

What or where is Pumbedita? Pumbedita is an ancient city in Iraq famous for it's academy; the modern city of Fallujah stands in its place.

Week 10

You can't afford to rest on your laurels at all or you'll instantly be on the bench Granit Xkaka - or out of the team?

The manager who had Jamie Vardy (triple points captain), Ayode Perez and Ben Chilwell in his team accumulated 99 points on Friday evening. Paul Spiller was top scorer of the week with 78 points (Vardy & Chilwell) and this enabled him to resume his position in first place as we reach the end of the first quarter. Matt Payne and Gareth Yeo with 33 points; the joint low score of the week. Jonathan Blackburn makes his first appearance in the top five.

3 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 69 576
4 Avin a Mair Jonathan Blackburn 77 570
5 Pumbedita Pygargs Anthony Kent 60 564

Top Team Number One at this stage with 699 points is winorloseonthebooze - but having played all his chips, can the manager Nick Tanner maintain his first place now held for three weeks. - '

Having signed Josh King three weeks ago and watch Bournemouth fail to score in three games I sold him today, with the inevitable outcome.

First Quarter Report - Weeks 1-10

Usual methodology 5 weeks for a 1st place down to 1 pt for 5th - number of weeks in brackets.

Unlike last year 19 teams have featured in the top five in the first quarter. I have made two weeks a minimum requirement. This season could be a lot closer than 2018-19 - no real front runner has emerged but the second quarter will sort out who are the managers to watch.

1. Ramblas VI Simon Brown 22pts (6)
2. Brokeback Mount10 Paul Spiller 21 pts (5)
3. Pumbedita Pygargs Anthony Kent 18 pts (8)
4. Wilson Pukki Mark Leonard 17 pts (4)
5. One Pep Beyond Samuel Watts 16 pts (5)
6. Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 12 pts (4)
7. #NolanOut Rhys Cummings 7 pts (4)
8= Woodpushers Alan Walton 6 pts (2)
Oxspring Big Boys David Grobler 6 pts (2)
10. Olympique Mayonnaise Grant Bucher 3 pts (2)

Week 11

"He was devastated after the action." Mauricio Pochettino after Son's red card against Everton - this was subsequently rescinded by the Premier League - but not the points deduction in Fantasy Football.

The European Champions League may have thrown up several injury problems for this weekend - notable for the meeting of Liverpool and Manchester City. Meanwhile in one of those odd occasions we find that the low scoring team of Week 9 (me) becomes the top team of Week 11 with 94 points. The two captains propping up the table this week are Richard Dineley and John Sargent both with 29 points. Adrian Matthews reaches the top five for the first time. In Week Two I described John Lundstram (Sheffield United) as Scandinavian - having listened to him in interview it's confirmed he's a Scouser!

1 Brokeback Mount10 Paul Spiller 64 663
2 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 84 660
3 Avin a Mair Jonathan Blackburn 87 657
4 Ramblas VI Simon Brown 40 636
5 SHOW ME THE MONEY Adrian Matthews 70 632

Finally John Lundstram's sister Jodie and also his cousin Keeley appeared in a shortlived scripted reality show "Desperate Scousewives" which was supposed to rival TOWIE (whatever that is) - but it failed miserably and was axed after the first series.

Week 12

We write this after the shock dismissal of Mauricio Pochettino's dismissal as Spurs manager.

2015 - when asked if would have taken the Tottenham job,"No, because I love Chelsea supporter too much. I'm Chelsea"
stated Jose Mourinho, 2019 on being appointed "I really like this squad and looking to the young players."

After the international break time to look back to Week 12 which seems an age ago. The average points score was 48 - and the effort Premier Chess managers are putting in shows when the top 26 all exceeded this score. Moving on up was Sam Herring who enters the top five for the first time with 95 points whilst down, down, deeper and down went Dominic Rabbitte and Richard Dineley both on 23 points.

1 Brokeback Mount10 Paul Spiller 68 731
2 Avin a Mair Jonathan Blackburn 74 727
3 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 66 726
4 Wijnaldum Leviosa Sam Herring 95 713
5 Pumbedita Pygargs Anthony Kent 73 703

Tough at the top A new overall leader Matthew Troha (Australia) on 851 points displaces Nick Tanner after four weeks at No.1

I would have said I have a better chance of beating Magnus at FPL than chess, but I'm no longer so sure

Paul that's a fascinating entry. Where did you pick that up from and are Wolves aware of their star supporter? Incidentally when I disclose I beat Richard Pert, Thomas Rendle, Lorin D'Costa and Lawrence Cooper (to name but four) recently should I advise it's at Fantasy Football and not chess?

Week 13

I understand the supporters are angry and frustrated, Unai Emery. Emery or Silva for the next sacking??

The top five players are unchanged - a mirror from last season when at this point the leaders moved away from the pack. However once again the top 24 teams had above average performances though we have to look to Page Two for the best score of the week. Lorcan Pritchard, a name not mentioned here before, scored a magnificent 82 points whilst Dominic Rabbitte, joint low scorer last week, this week has that dubious distinction alone with his score of 29 points.

1 Avin a Mair Jonathan Blackburn 73 800
2 Brokeback Mount10 Paul Spiller 68 799
3 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 64 790
4 Wijnaldum Leviosa Sam Herring 71 784
5 Pumbedita Pygargs Anthony Kent 72 775

BBC goal video I see the BBC are featuring a wonder goal by the 'keeper in some Mexican match - but we've seen it all before here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSWmJBGROqg.

The has been quite a lot of discussion of the GM FPL league on twitter, notably by Peter Heine Nielsen. MVL is the other elite GM who seems to do well.

I was surprised by Wolves too. I had heard Magnus speak about Real Madrid a few times, but never an English club.

Week 14

"I came here and I'm trying and fighting a lot, although the circumstances are bad for us." Dec 1st - Quique Sanchez Flores (Watford Manager). Later on 1st December Flores was sacked.

A short report this week - with midweek matches starting tomorrow. The top five remain almost unchanged although David Egginton makes a first appearance in joint fifth place. Richard Pert is king of the castle with 76 points whilst the week's naughty rascal is Nathan Talbot on 26 points.

1 Avin a Mair Jonathan Blackburn 50 850
2 Brokeback Mount10 Paul Spiller 43 842
3 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 48 838
4 Wijnaldum Leviosa Sam Herring 50 834
5= Hope Springs David Egginton 50 816
5= Pumbedita Pygargs Anthony Kent 45 816

Top Team The overall leader has now reached 969 points - so the first 1000+ score will be acheived in Week 15

Week 15

"It has been a real honour to have managed Everton for the past 18 months" - Marco Silva who was sacked on 6th December.

2 Avin a Mair Jonathan Blackburn 65 915
3 Brokeback Mount10 Paul Spiller 58 900
4 Wijnaldum Leviosa Sam Herring 51 885

Sorely the real story is that Magnus has advanced to ninth in a field of seven million players?
