Week 25

"Now we can go all-in in the league and FA Cup." Brendan Rodgers explains Leicester's exit from the Europa League.

It was another high scoring week (eventually) with teams approaching, but not breaking, the 100 point barrier. Week 26 might be different. The top five teams are unchanged from last week. There are now only nine teams within 100 points of leader John Garnett and to show how quickly things change, Lawrence Cooper who was in the top five in Week 23 now trails by 95 points whilst Roland Graf, the early pacemaker, is 195 points adrift. Gourmet scores of the week from Onos Kofi-Ofuafor & Paul Spiller both on 96 points whilst Leon Watson's "KFC Streatham" could only takeaway a minimal 19 points.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 86 1699
2 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 85 1649
3 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 96 1646
4 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 85 1635
5 All is not lost Kaia Means 70 1620

Meanwhile Bearing in mind John Garnett's leading score of 1699 on here, this is how a few other chess related leagues are progressing - number of managers in brackets. Suffolk & Anglian Chess (6) - John Peters leads; Chess Players (42) top score is 1649 - Lawrence Cooper in 4th place; chess24 Champions Chess Tour (47) -Lawrence in 2nd place here ahead of Magnus Carlsen in 3rd; however Carlsen leads the Grandmaster League (15) with 1609 points and finally West is Best (9) has a top score of 1608; Steven Smith 10th with us in 2nd place.

Week 26

There are difficult matches from time to time, and that is absolutely normal. You have to stay calm and confident after them. Thomas Tuchel

It was a big, big week in Fantasy Football with 17 matches. There were some very high scores and average points of 75 saw plenty of managers reach this figure and nine scores of 100+ were recorded. Top points of the week, 138, using his Bench Boost chip was by Nathan Talbot whilst Barry Redburn and Dominic Rabbitte both with 53 were joint low scorers. Eddie Hargreaves features in the top five for the first time where his team of Tasty Biscuitmen are assured of a nice time whilst they hob knob with Premier Chess's elite managers.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 79 1778
2 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 94 1729
3 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 89 1727
4 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 82 1723
5 Tasty Biscuitmen Eddy Hargreaves 96 1705

Overall Ola Hovde is still overall leader on 1933 - can he break the 2,000 barrier this week?

Week 27

The Now Show "The Windsors are in such a crisis that they are threatening to bring in Sam Allardyce" And as we go to press or whatever - Chris Wilder, Manager of Sheffield United is set to resign.

It was a giant leap back into the top five from Lawrence Cooper who scored over 100 points - but that was by no means the highlight of the week where we have to look at the bottom of Page Three (so to speak) where Charlie Nettleton scored a magnificent 116 points. On his way he overtook low scorer David Blower whose small step was a miniscule 19 points and the 8,030,282th highest game week score which must be some sort of record for Premier Chess.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 75 1853
2 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 106 1804
3 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 73 1802
4 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 66 1789
5 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 66 1789

Overall Surprisingly the 2,000 points barrier wasn't broken this week. Our Number One player Ola Hovde who has held 1st position since Week 10 - a total of 18 weeks could only reach 59 points. His almost unassailable lead has disappeared in the past five weeks and the pack are now on him - this game week could well signal the end of his reign.

Week 28

“If he was here he would be fighting to be champion. If I was in Sheffield maybe I would fight to not be relegated,” Pep Guardiola comments on Chris Wilder's resignation.

With ten weeks to go leader John Garnett now has just six players within 100 points and has a convincing gap of 74 points to second-placed Sam Smith who still hasn't changed his name. It was a week without any really outstanding scores with Phil Makepeace and Yong Wang sharing the honours on 79 points; less of a surprise to see Alex Bullen who is in 120th and last place with the low score of 16 points.* Alex's team includes Raúl Jiménez as captain and also Virgil van Dijk which indicates he hasn't been paying any attention since Week 6 or so; but he has at least passed the 1,000 point mark. A quick word about Yong's team name "AboveChideraAbana" - Chidera Abana is the manager of one Yong's rivals in another League and indeed he is below Yong's side at present.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 66 1919
2 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 43 1845
3 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 49 1838
4 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 28 1832
5 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 42 1831

Finally As predicted last week Ola Hovde after 18 successive weeks as overall leader has been overhauled and is now in 3rd place. 29 teams are over the 2,000 point mark after Week 28 and it now looks like a dash to the finish.

* Incidentally Alex's 16 points was the 8,039,532nd highest; thus beating David Blower's record of last week.

My 28 included two disallowed goals, two assists wiped out when goals were deemed to be own goals and two defenders losing their clean sheet in the fourth minute of injury time! That and stupidly selling John Stones made it a memorable week

Week 29

I am not Obi Wan Kenobi in charge of the Death Star Mike Ashley - well that's gratifying to know.

Week 29 was the week with only four fixtures so consequently if you weren't paying attention to the League you might have ended up like managers Colin Hughes and Andrew Willoughby with "nil points" - not surprisingly the low scores of the week. However 0pts was only the 7,958.266th lowest score indicating that several hundred thousand other managers also failed to find one player to grace the field. Meanwhile an impressive 83pts was the top score of the week from Andrew Harley and he enters the top five for the first time. John Garnett now finds only two players within 100 points and Week 30 will see him break the 2,000 barrier.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 71 1990
2 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 64 1896
3 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 58 1892
4 Harley Mitrokane Andrew Harley 83 1889
5 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 33 1878

Meanwhile John is in 952nd place overall -to date nearly 600 managers are up to 2000 points.

Quarter Three - Weeks 20-29

John Garnett moved to first place in Week 19 and has remained firmly in place ever since whilst his rivals have floundered below him. John Peters also entered the top five this quarter to compete with Lawrence Cooper, Onos Kofi-Ofuafor and Sam Smith for what could be minor places as John extends his lead. Eddy Hargreaves and Andrew Harley aren't included as they have yet to meet the threshold of two games ; however both could feature in Quarter Four. Meanwhile in 119th and 120th place David Ledger and Alex Bullen continue the battle for the wooden spoon although one-time backmarker Colin Hughes could still feature here.

Usual - 5 points for a 1st place, down to 1 for 5th; number of weeks in brackets

1. UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 50 (10)
2. Aimless Wanderers John Peters 34 (10)
3. CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 28 (10)
4. Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 20 (9)
5. Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 16 (7)
6. All is not lost Kaia Means 3 (2)

If I understand the above correctly ( which I probably don't ) the leader might be expecting a visit from Prof Regan.

Week 30

I did not expect too much after the international break and the early kick-off. Thomas Tuchel - possibly not expecting a 5-2 defeat

It was one of those weeks where no one did particularly well or indeed badly - consequently there was little change at the top; leader John Garnett exceeding the 2000 mark. However just like "Back to the Future" bottom scorer Matthew Payne whose team "Gini, Mini, Mane, Mo" scored a minimal 24 points miraculously transformed into top scorer Matthew Timbrell whose team "Gini, Mini, Mane, Mo" scored a maximum 80 points. Some 14 years and 56 points separate the two teams. The bottom three teams scored 32, 36 & 38 respectively so no change there either.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 54 2044
2 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 60 1956
3 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 71 1949
4 Harley Mitrokane Andrew Harley 58 1947
5 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 54 1946

Tough at the top Unlike our league too close to call in the overall placings - still 250 teams within 100 points of the leader.

Week 31

It would have been fair for City to win, but we deserved to win. Marcelo Bielsa (Leeds)

The gap between John Garnett in 1st and the 2nd placed side (now John Peters) fell from 88 points in Week 30 to 82 in Week 31. There are now just seven scoring weeks to go whilst at the current rate it was take 14 weeks to narrow the gap to zero, so it needs a mammoth effort for a challenge to emerge. However both Johns have run out of special chips whereas Sam Smith in 3rd place still has both bench boost and triple captain options left to play. Low score was from Rene Butler whose team "Uneed2 keep running" obviously tripped over it's shoelaces on 15 points*; meanwhile Mark Talbot's Luke Kylewalker struck back and felt the force with 81 points for the week.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 54 2094
2 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 66 2012
3 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 62 2011
4 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 54 2010
5 Harley Mitrokane Andrew Harley 50 1997

Overall The first English manager we come to in the overall ratings has 2183 points and is in 10th spot some 45 points behind the current leader Pandin Bruyne of Malaysia. Long time first placed manager Ola Hovde still in the running in 3rd place.

* Rene's score is 8,088,098th highest (or indeed lowest) which breaks the record for lowest place recorded.

Week 32

"We don't like it and we don't want it to happen" Jordan Henderson as the European Super League collapses

A quick update as one match day follows another more quickly than a Super League withdrawal. Those with Harry Kane as triple points captain got a massive 36 point boost - until Kane limped off in Spurs first match of the week; so no extra bonuses for the second match. John Garnett's lead is cut to 55 points with Sam Smith leading the challengers where we see Melvin Pool for the first time. James Marley hit the heights with 94 points whilst plumbing the depths on 25 points was Anthony Ibbotson.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 56 2150
2 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 84 2095
3 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 67 2079
4 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 65 2075
5 Melvinho XI Melvin Pool 73 2065

Own Goal Week 33 has already started with an own goal - so here's another https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/56854618

Week 33

"It's been a disappointing season. I just want to win trophies" Harry Kane. Indicating a move from Spurs?

One solitary point clawed back on leader John Garnett in Week 33 - with five weeks to go there must soon be a challenge. Third placed Andrew Harley features in the top five as he is joint top scorer with 70 along with David Lambert who now looks to reach the leader board after five successive weeks of progress. Meanwhile at the foot of the table Colin Hughes could only find four eligible players and as a result scored 9 points which at 8,129,689th overall for the week becomes our new season's low score beating Alex Bullen's 8,039,532 in Week 28.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 54 2204
2 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 55 2150
3 Harley Mitrokane Andrew Harley 70 2129
4 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 53 2128
5= Aimless Wanderers John Peters 48 2119
5= Tasty Biscuitmen Eddy Hargreaves 58 2119

Finally Well would you believe it. Long time leader Ola Hovde on 2350 points is back in first place after six weeks away.
