Three Man United matches in gameweek 35 albeit with them having to play Sunday, Tuesday & Thursday there may be a bit of rotation.

Man City - Chelsea will be a reserve game only because they cannot play their women.

Week 34

"What happened at Old Trafford on Sunday was a riot. And a disgrace" Richard Keys criticises Gary Neville for comments made on SKY.

Those managers looking to Liverpool and Manchester United players for points were left floundering as the Premier League postponed the match after supporters stormed the stadium at the weekend. A double dose of despondency as most-captained player Harry Kane failed to either score or assist whereas his team mates Son & Bale helped themselves to multiple points. Long time leader John Garnett was one of many of sufferers with these setbacks and as a result the gap to second placed Sam Smith has now narrowed to 35 points. As suggested last time we see David Lambert make his debut into the top five. Top score of the week of 92 points to Rhys Cummings whilst slip sliding way goes Harvey Kelly with a 7 points low score
1. UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 36 2240
2 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 55 2205
3 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 45 2173
4= Hibbert for England David Lambert 54 2168
4= Harley Mitrokane Andrew Harley 39 2168

Week 35..........is a mammoth week. As pointed out above, double weeks for plenty of teams/managers approaching.

Week 35

"Winning the Premier League is the ultimate fulfilment of our ambitions. Manchester City captain Fernandinho.

Week 35 was the big week with multiple matches and points to be gained. 18 of the top 20 Premier Chess managers scored over 100 points. Leader John Garnett had no chips to play but still scored 135 points. His rivals have scattered in his wake and it will take a huge turnaround for anyone to catch him now..... except for one exception. Second placed Sam was top scorer of the week playing his Bench Boost card for a adjusted 145 points (one transfer). He now trails John by just twenty five points with three weeks left. Quick mention for me, 2nd highest score of the week and appearing on Page One for the first, and probably last, time. Finally spare a thought for Chris Willoughby with the low score of the week of 37 points - despite a host of stars in his team (Lingard, Son, Dias, Kane etc).

1. UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 135 2375
2. CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 149 2350
3 Tasty Biscuitmen Eddy Hargreaves 132 2288
4= Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 109 2282
4= Harley Mitrokane Andrew Harley 114 2282

Overall - too close to call. 2 points ahead from his closest challenger is still Ola Hovde but there are a dozen challengers within 30 points. Everything to play for!

Week 36

'Our dreams can come true... if we have the courage to pursue them.' Leicester City F.A. Cup Final banner

In contrast to last Game Week, very little occurred in Week 36. Scores were very much the same throughout; witness the top scorer was Steven Smith on 70; Tony Niccoli on 73 taking a transfer deduction to reduce his score to 69. John Garnett maintained his lead at the top whilst Alex Bullen cemented his position as 120th and last with a low score of 15 points and now trails John by 1,099 points! Which brings us on to The Strange Case of Paul Spiller whose team of Victor Moses Lawn is in free-fall since Week 28 having lost over 3,000,000 places. The reason is that weekly transfers over the period have exceeded 110 with 17 & 19 transfers taking place in some weeks; small wonder therefore that in ten weeks Paul's total score has advanced by less than 100 points.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 52 2423
2 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 41 2387
3 Tasty Biscuitmen Eddy Hargreaves 61 2345
4 Harley Mitrokane Andrew Harley 60 2342
5 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 54 2336

Overall Absolutely nothing separates the top teams still - last year the leader at Week 37 was overtaken in the final week although the overall winner was subsequently disqualified for reasons that never became clear.

Week 37

"We can share one last special moment together, as one pack." Nuno Espirito Santo who is resigning as Wolves manager.

With Nuno and Roy Hodgson on their bikes (as well as Big Sam) who will be filling those vacancies next season? There is certainly no vacancy at the top of Premier Chess where John Garnett is home and dry unless he decides, like Paul Spiller, it's a good time to make 18 transfers in a week. Rather late in the day Mark Lim played his bench boost chip to score an impressive 98 points whilst Dominic Rabbitte has not played any chips or made any transfers at all during the season - his 18 point tally for Week 37 the low point of the week - which probably means that Dominic will finish even lower than 2019-20 when he was 78th out of 79 players.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 65 2488
2 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 55 2442
3 Harley Mitrokane Andrew Harley 65 2407
4 Tasty Biscuitmen Eddy Hargreaves 45 2390
5 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 53 2389

Overall To close to call. Ola Hovde still in the lead by 1 point; one has the horrible feeling that he will fail. Enquiries on the disqualification last year show that the winner made some inappropriate posts on social media which resulted in his removal. Finally the Fantasy Cup Final takes place a little behind it's real counterpart where Duck,Duck,Goose take on Rangers FC. There is a prize for the winner; however the loser doesn't even receive his BFH as Jim Bowen might have said.

Week 38

There was no preview for Week 38 simply as John Garnett was so well established at the top whilst Alex Bullen had concreted his position as 120th and last. Consequently the remaining places were the equivalent of rearranging the deckchairs on the Titanic. For the record top score of the week was from Harvey Kelly in 115th place with 80 points - as he has obviously not looked at his team for months this accolade will have passed him by whilst Dominic Rabbitte was overhauled by Harvey as his score was just 9 points and thus also the low score of the season in 8,204,730th place.

There is more to come - so for the record here are our five leading scores after the completion of Week 38. Congratulations to John! :D

Quarter 4 Weeks 30-38

There was little to play for as John Garnett cemented his position at the top and was first for the duration of the quarter. His main challengers Sam Smith and Lawrence Cooper trailed in his wake; John Peters disappeared from the top five during the quarter whilst Andrew Harley and Eddy Hargreaves who both made a fleeting appearance in Quarter Three established themselves in the top five. David Lambert and Melvin Pool both made a solitary appearance and quickly returned to the pursuing pack.

Usual methodology - 5 pts for a 1st place; down to 1 pt for 5th. Number of weeks in brackets.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 45pts (9)
2 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 34pts (9)
4 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 19pts (9)
3 Harley Mitrokane Andrew Harley 16pts (8)
5 Tasty Biscuitmen Eddy Hargreaves 10pts (5)
6 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 9pts (4)

Overall Season 2020-21

Here are the overall placings based on each quarterly report. The figures score, as usual, five points for a first place down to 1 point for fifth place with the number of weeks in brackets (out of 38). Five weeks minimum to appear.

Roland Graf and Rhys Cumming were early pacemakers but after leading in Quarter One they disappeared in Quarter Two leaving two other captains John Garnett and Sam Smith to fight it out till the end. Other challenges were made notably by Lawrence Cooper and John Peters but they faded. Sam never quite bridged the gap and John established a lead in the second quarter which he held to the completion of Premier Chess 2020-21.

1 UTB UTA UTQ John Garnett 138pts (35)
2 CHANGE NAME Sam Smith 108pts (32)
3 Wengerboys Lawrence Cooper 63pts (24)
4.Free Wendy Roland Graf 56pts (12)
5 #NolanOut Rhys Cumming 50 pts (16)
6 Aimless Wanderers John Peters 43pts (14)
7 Salt & Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 41pts (18)
8 Harley Mitrokane Andrew Harley 18pts (9)
9 Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 17pts (11)
10 Tasty Biscuitmen Eddy Hargreaves 11pts (6)

Sam never changed his team name though some captains may be wondering what the significance of John's winning team name, UTB UTA UTQ is.
It stands for North-East football teams supported by our winner - so Up the Boro, Anchors and Quakers. With the Torquay v Hartlepool National league play-off taking place, John informs me that he hopes to add UTP (Up the Pool) to the name shortly!

A last footnote for 2020-21.

Firstly John will be adding UTP to his team name following Hartlepool's promotion back to the Football League - despite the effort of the Torquay goalkeeper who equalised in stoppage time.

Secondly - spare a thought for Ola Hovde -long time leader and first going into Week 38. He failed miserably (scoring 53 pts) and was overhauled by nine other teams so won nothing.

Finally the 2020-21 results have now disappeared and I'm receiving e-mails about selecting my squad for 2021-22 despite the fact that the season doesn't commence till August. I'll open a new thread in due course but one expects transfers/new players after Euro 2021 finishes.
