HES collects detailed information on every patient journey through the hospital system. Hospitals submit data to NHS Digital who process the information an return it to providers. It’s then used to calculate payments for every aspect of care. Suppressed data would mean hospitals wouldn’t be paid. The Government doesn’t get anywhere near the data, which is publicly available, except as an end user.

I could try all sorts of things, including FoI requests, but you know as well as I do that I wouldn't find the answer to my question, because it is suppressed.
