Premier League Fantasy Football 2021-22

Post by Neil Graham » Tue Jul 27, 2021 4:24 pm

Premier Chess, the Number One Fantasy Football League for chess players, has been opened for the new season! Last year's managers are automatically re-entered so you have the chance to beat our reigning champion John Garnett.

Where else can you purchase a whole squad for £100 million when Harry Kane is worth (reputedly) £130 million? There is one sole rule in that you must use your actual name as team manager.

Here is the Fantasy Football site -https://fantasy.premierleague.com/. For new managers the joining code for this year is vdm1rl.

A reminder that cut-off point for Week 1 is 6.30pm (18.30) tomorrow. So if you want to avoid missing out on points your team needs to be selected and registered by then!

Unfortunately three didn't appear and non-Brentford players came on as substitutes. I was amazed that some of your selection had played for Brentford - not sure though that the policy of selecting a team of solely Brentford players will work in the long run - but what do I know you outscored my team! :)

Week One

Are you watching Harry Kane? Tottenham supporters chant on opening day of season.

The opening week's points can be divided into two categories - those who picked both Salah and Bruno Fernandes with either nominated as captain and those managers who selected neither. The former group all scored 100 points plus with 17 managers in three figures and plenty with 90 points or more whilst the latter group finished with less than 40 points. Top of the pile was Joel Newman with 113 points whilst bottom of the heap was Mark Page on 25 points. Entries at the moment on 132 - an increase on last year.

1 Lanzini'sLamborghini Joel Newman 113 113
2 '96 Comeback Special Ed Dodds 108 108
3 Salt and Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 107 107
4= Hope Springs David Egginton 106 106
4= Trent & Torment Cameron Henry 106 106

Finally Singing Spurs supporters. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOAA42GKys4

I was bit fed up that Wissa didn't get a run out. Especially as I'd transferred him in for Canós earlier in the week :roll:

Watkins should score whenever he's back.

Winston Reid (New Zealand captain) is never likely to start. He's always injured. But I put him in anyway, just because.

Tarkowski, Benrahma, Dallas and Maupay all scored decent points (6, 12, 5, 5).

And there is one advantage to this strategy. I can afford absolutely anybody for my remaining players :)

Possibly I didn't make that clear. All the managers who scored 100 or more points selected both Salah and Fernandes - there were some who selected both (like yourself) who didn't reach the magic three figures. Week 2 report (following) reminds everyone that whilst these players did well in the opening week, success* didn't last long.

* If you were one of the 0.5% of managers whose selections include Isaac Success (Watford) this is indeed true - he has played 0 minutes so far.

Week 2

“If you haven’t won a trophy, then you cannot say you have had a successful season.” Sir Alex Ferguson. Spurs have won two trophies in 20 seasons. Harry Kane is stopping at Tottenham.

Some familiar names in the frame. 2019 winner David Egginton is top scorer of the week with 91 points and he moves into first place, also in the top five is Onos Kofi-Ofuafor - another successful manager over the past two seasons. Meanwhile a minimal 14 point haul for David Blower is easily the low score of the week which means David who finished 116th out of 120 last year is back in usual territory and already trails the league leader by 141 points after two weeks. Fernandes and Salah weren't much in evidence and who knows who might be appearing before the transfer window closes?

1 Hope Springs David Egginton 91 197
2= Trent & Torment Cameron Henry 85 191
2= Lanzini'sLamborghini Joel Newman 78 191
4 Salt and Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 80 187
5 Farcelona Richard York-Weaving 82 186

Finally David Blower wasn't helped by a sending off but not like these! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcWOD8op5jM

Week 3

The motto of Arsenal is Victoria Concordia Crescit, Latin for "Victory Through Harmony".. Time for a change? :)

If the scores for the first three weeks are anything to go by it's going to be a high-scoring season even though total entries are down on 2020-21 which exceeded 8,000,000. At the moment with the international break looming our managers are still jockeying for position (much like a Manchester City squad player). Hitting the peak with 84 points were both Paul Cooksey and Alan Walton whilst plumbing the depths for a second week was Mark Page with a mediocre 34 points after transferring in Ivan Toney and then leaving him on the bench!

1 Farcelona Richard York-Weaving 76 262
2 Hope Springs David Egginton 62 259
3 Dynamo Flick James Marley 75 258
4 Salt and Pepe Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 67 254
5 Bobby's Rovers John Reyes 68 251

Finally The top four teams have now exceeded 300 points. However all them have used a "chip" card already. Just as in "Premier Chess" the real challenge is yet to come.

After 60+ minutes, five of the six games have yet to see a goal. Why don't they follow the example of Test Cricket and not bother to play at all?

After earlier congratulating myself on deciding against signing Dier or Tanganga today I have to reluctantly conclude that Antonio didn't work out so well either.

Ronaldo double, Lukaku double -my captain. A Raducanu win will be good too.

Making Antonio my captain and scoring -2 wasn't good. I once nominated David Bentley as captain and he scored -2 doubled to -4 - I cannot remember a lower score than that!
