Premier League Fantasy Football 2022-23

Post by Neil Graham » Thu Jul 28, 2022 11:46 pm

I have renewed the Premier Chess League for the new season - clearly Magnus Carlsen has withdrawn from the World Chess Championship to concentrate on beating Paul Cooksey (the 2021-22 victor).

If you haven't played before here is the website

https://fantasy.premierleague.com/leagu ... oin/j6bm9j

League Code: j6bm9j

P.S. No pseudonyms - managers must register in their real names!

Last Reminder

In order to ensure your team is in for Week 1, you need to have selected by 18.30 tomorrow (as there is a Friday evening game).

So 1 day to go.

Thanks for setting this up again, Neil.

I put my team in last night. I thought Zugzwang would be a cool team name for the chess league, but it seems that the system didn't. It's been flagged pending moderation 🤔

I hope it gets approved

I thought "Pending Moderation" was a rather odd name for a team. I can't see any reason why it shouldn't be approved.

I see that Paul Spiller is "Pending Moderation" as well!

I think this may be the Scunthorpe problem rearing its head.

Ah, I see..... and I have just learnt a new word within my proposed team name 😁

Week 1

"We have to do our job and trust in ourselves." Marco Silva after Fulham's draw with Liverpool.

Whilst Liverpool dropped two points, Manchester City, Chelsea and Spurs opened strongly. Premier Chess is roughly the same size as last year with 130 entrants at the moment compared with 134 in 2021-22. What can we say about our leader after Round One - except it's me! I haven't graced the top five ever so I'd better make the most of it thanks to Haaland, Salah and Mitrovic. Holding up the League is Ian Thompson on 23 points

1 Dastardly & Custard Neil Graham 99 99
2 Muse FC Tabs Ryan 83 83
3 Veni Vardy Vici Rob Ensor 82 82
4= Great Podenceial Thomas Evans 79 79
4= Ten Hag gets going * Mark Talbot 79 79

Top Team Fantasy Football started with 8,555,915 entrants with Real Social Dad the first leader on 119 points.

Week 2

"In the few seconds I had to study Romero pulling Cucurella's hair, I didn't deem it a violent act," VAR ref Mike Dean.

We could spend a great deal of time discussing the Chelsea -Spurs match and their two managers. Instead I'll pose a question - who would you chose for your team - Forest's Dean Henderson and Nico Williams or Liverpool's Alisson and Trent A-A? Points scored were 21 v 5 for the former pairing. As for frontmen Nunez and Mitrovic! This is why only Thomas Evans remains from the Week 1 leaderboard. Meanwhile top score of the week from Ben Cullen who is the first manager to reach triple figures for a ganeweek. As there were 8,555,915 total entrants in Week 1 it came as a surprise to find our low scorer Alberto Gissi in 8,783,231st place with 21 points. However entries have now risen to 9,289,218 in Week 2. Will we reach 10 million?

1 Great Podenceial Thomas Evans 80 159
2= Aresnal Xhakapital Ben Cullen 101 158
2= Ince and Ruud Mark Leonard 84 158
4 Dynamo Flick James Marley 83 157
5 Pepe pig Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 77 151

Finally The top three teams have already reached the 200 point mark!

Week 3

"The fight, spirit and energy from Manchester United was brilliant. Gary Neville.

With Liverpool languishing winless after defeat by pointless United, Chelsea thumped and the Hammers being hammered it looks like a difficult season for Premier Chess managers - witnessed by another change with two debutants Adrian Matthews and David Grobler filling the top two spots. Forest supporter Mike Swanwick achieved the top score of the week with Coopers Troopers XI however this involved playing his Bench Boost chip - possibly an unwise decision in Week 3! Meanwhile Greg Eagleton was lowest score of the week in 9,172,556th place assisted by a defence line of Alexander-Arnold, Cancelo and James who scored a total of 1 point between them!

1 SHOW ME THE MONEY Adrian Matthews 78 217
2 Oxspring Big Boys David Grobler 69 211
3 Ince and Ruud Mark Leonard 51 209
4 Dynamo Flick James Marley 50 207
5 DontMugYourSelf FC Andy Shearsby 56 205

Top Team The leading manager now has 266 points - but it's worth mentioning they have already expended their Bench Boost and Triple Captain chips.

Week 4

“We’re learning, real, real harsh lessons Scott Parker after Bournemouth's 9-0 defeat at Liverpool.

Week Five starts tomorrow so a Bank Holiday update. In the words of Young Mr.Grace "You've all done very well" - there is very little to separate our managers so far with good scores all round. Kevin Williamson is no longer pending moderation with "Zugzwang" allowed as a team name; but Paul Spiller is still in the naughty corner till they accept his team name (whatever it is). The second triple figure score of the season from Chris Davison who moves up 4 million places overall whilst Chris James who was 135th and last in 2021/22 spirals downward with 26 points; this week's low in 9,555,315th place. The top two teams from Week Three disappear with James Marley and Mark Leonard taking up the running.

1 Dynamo Flick James Marley 90 297
2 Ince and Ruud Mark Leonard 83 292
3 DontMugYourSelf FC Andy Shearsby 87 288
4 Pepe pig Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 81 285
5 biogs.com Danny Rosenbaum 81 283

Finally Total teams in "Premier Chess" for this season currently stand at 139 (four better than last year's record entry). As usual we will close the League to new entrants probably around World Cup time.

Week 5

Week 4 “We’re learning, real, real harsh lessons" Scott Parker. 08.45am 30/8/2022 - Parker sacked! :shock:

It was a high scoring week - unsurprising as 71% of Premier League Fantasy managers have selected hat trick hero Erling Haaland - with most nominating him as captain. I've not conducted an in-depth investigation on Premier Chess but all top ten managers included Haaland with eight giving him the captain's armband. The two dissenters plumped for Salah. Meanwhile I was the top manager for Week 5 after three rather indifferent performances and became the 3rd manager this season to score triple points. Bringing up the rear was Alan Jeffs in 9,718,516th postion. The downward spiral of our backmarkers reflects that in Week 1 there were 8,555,915 entrants - by Week 5 this has swelled to 10,100,387 which is a record.

1 Ince and Ruud Mark Leonard 88 380
2 Dynamo Flick James Marley 75 372
3 Pepe pig Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 86 371
4= Great Podenceial Thomas Evans 88 364
4= DontMugYourSelf FC Andy Shearsby 80 364

Finally Whilst Paul Spiller still waits in moderation, I see that other managers are falling foul of an "offensive" name tag . A swift glance of the top 250 teams shows three with the "Change Name" instruction

Week 6

Chelsea Football Club has today parted company with Head Coach Thomas Tuchel. Club statement. Tuchel sacked after defeat at Zagreb

Last season we were quoting odds for the sacking of Premier Division managers. Now six weeks in and two gone already. On Saturday odds on Graham Potter leaving Brighton were 66/1 but now he is 1/6 favourite as he holds talks to replace Tuchel. However plenty expect that Brendan Rodgers will be next to go and he too is odds on. Meanwhile in a week when all the scores looked remarkably similar the only thing of note was the appearance of expert Sam Herring in the top five for the first time. Jaimie Wilson was Top Cat with Olympique Lioness whilst Mike Garland's Easy Tiger gave a toothless performance with the low score and a rank of 10,058,410th for the week.

1 Ince and Ruud Mark Leonard 37 417
2 DontMugYourSelf FC Andy Shearsby 55 415
3 Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 54 414
4 Dynamo Flick James Marley 41 413
5 Pepe pig Onos Kofi-Ofuafor 38 409

Finally Erling Haaland is now selected by 78.7% of managers and, needless to say, is the leading points scorer with 67 - some 22 ahead of 2nd placed Ivan Toney.

Just a short note to advise that all the weekend football will not go ahead following the death of Queen Elizabeth as a mark of respect.

The Football Association said fixtures between 9 and 11 September are postponed, adding that as a "long-standing patron" of the FA the Queen "has left a lasting and indelible legacy on our national game".

Sadly it didn't answer my question about what happens to those with two available transfers, do they lose one after today's deadline?

Week 8

“Contracts are irrelevant in football because managers can have three, four, five-year contracts and if results aren’t good enough then you accept that’s time to part ways. Gareth Southgate.

Week 7 and indeed some of Week 8 disappeared because of the Queen's passing and there has been a further gap because of the international break. Furthermore I can't answer Lawrence's question either - but hopefully we're back on the road for Week 9 before we all vacate the Premier League for Qatar. Although a curtailed programme there were still plenty of high scores, notably from Alex Bullen who enters the Famous Five for the first time with the top score of the week. Meanwhile Neil Pennock's not-so-magnificent Seven could only muster 11 points with most of his players absentees through postponements to record the lowest result of the season so far in 10,386,314th position.

1 DontMugYourSelf FC Andy Shearsby 75 490
2 Dynamo Flick James Marley 66 479
3 Bullen a china shop Alex Bullen 98 477
4= Slumdog Mignolet Sam Herring 61 475
4= Ince and Ruud Mark Leonard 58 475
