ENG vs IRA
Flitting around social media I've noticed a number of references to
ENG vs IRA
Has there been "trouble at mill" that I have missed?

Re: ENG vs IRA
Probably people following the World Cup who don't realize that Iran's official abbreviation is IRI.

Re: ENG vs IRA
Someone once, ChessBase perhaps, did an article about the top 10 headcount of FIDE rated players and assumed IRI was the Republic of Ireland.

Re: ENG vs IRA
Sounds like they should change it to IRN officially - IRI doesn't really make sense when there is no second 'I' in the name and county abbreviations are always made up of existing letters.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

IRI stands for "Islamic Republic of Iran" (for better or worse).Joey Stewart wrote: ↑Mon Nov 21, 2022 9:48 pmSounds like they should change it to IRN officially - IRI doesn't really make sense when there is no second 'I' in the name and county abbreviations are always made up of existing letters.

It contains another excellent interview with Shohreh Bayat (the latest of many) and my own comments on today's events.
