All this talk about slugs has given me an idea for a new class of chess problem.

Slug Chess Pieces
A Slug Chess piece can only move one square at a time though
it still has it's original attacking power. So although a Rook
can only move one square at a time it still covers a whole rank or file
and a King still cannot move into check.

White to play and mate in 9 moves.

Anybody got one with a slug Bishop?

Slugs Chess Pieces can refuse to move for many days and would lose on time

Well i got to give the tortoises a bath back later.
when you are successful many losers bark at you.

I'd assumed that they prefer to shower than bathe.

Do they use "Head & Shoulders"?

I propose an amendment to the Slug Piece rules.

I don't see why slug pieces have the influence of check when they can only move one square at a time...

Instead, slug pieces can only move one square at a time, but they leave a trail of "slime" from where they have moved. The slime disappears when the piece moves away from the line that the "slime" is on. e.g. In Geoff's example, a trail of slime would be left from f8-f2 as the rook slowly moves down the board. However if White played 7.Re3 instead of 7.Kg3, the slime trail from f8-f4 would disappear and a new patch of slime would start from the f3 square.

If an enemy piece lands on a "slime" square, it is paralysed and can no longer move until the slime disappears.

Pawns are the slugs of the chessboard!
The Queen is an Octopus.
The King an Oyster
The Bishop is a Squid
The Rook is a.......quick Snail
and the Knights are................Frogs (I've ran out of Mollusks)

No Tortoises prefer a bath and will also take a drink while bathing no chemicals like head and shoulders should be used.Just plain filtered warm water will do and i leave them for about 15 /20 minutes,The only thing i make sure is the water is not to deep to prevent drowning.I believe in the wild many can die like this.Tortoises are also prone to up ending and if not put back up right will die.In the wild tortoises will up end other tortoises. Selection of the fittest is part of the reason why this happens.I check about 4 times a day to make sure this has not happened! It can also occur when a tortoises is climbing over rocks.

This should really be in the tortoises thread. No, I don't want to know
how to wash a slug!
