Ashes squad 2013-14

Post by Mick Norris » Mon Sep 23, 2013 1:26 pm

England squad: Alastair Cook (captain), Joe Root, Jonathan Trott, Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell, Gary Ballance, Michael Carberry, Jonny Bairstow, Ben Stokes, Matt Prior (vice-captain), Stuart Broad, Graeme Swann, James Anderson, Monty Panesar, Steven Finn, Boyd Rankin, Chris Tremlett.

No Bresnan (although he will travel to Australia and be available if and when he recovers from his back injury), Onions, Compton, Tredwell or Kerrigan.

Interesting selections, particularly Ballance, Rankin and Stokes

Never thought Bopara had a chance of being picked - James Taylor maybe, some others in the Performance squad that is going to act as back up

Onions playing in South Africa this winter is said to be the back-up for Anderson

England performance programme squad: Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Danny Briggs (Hampshire), Jos Buttler (Somerset), Varun Chopra (Warwickshire), Ben Foakes (Essex), James Harris (Middlesex), Chris Jordan (Sussex), Simon Kerrigan (Lancashire), Alex Lees (Yorkshire), Tymal Mills (Essex), Jamie Overton* (Somerset), Sam Robson (Middlesex), Reece Topley (Essex), James Vince (Hampshire), David Willey (Northants), Mark Wood* (Durham)
*Overton and Wood will remain in the UK and specialise in strength and conditioning work

I don't think performance squad means "second XI" otherwise I guess Taylor, Bopara,Morgan, Woakes Onions and maybe Tredwell would have been included.

I guess it's more about looking at the generation below.
