The expression can also have the slightly different meaning (less relevant to chess) of "being left to entertain or occupy himself".

I thought there was enough in previous posts to answer your query but let me try again.

In the quote given, 'little' is merely emphasising that the pawn is the least of the chess pieces, both physically and in terms of power. However, as the quote goes on to point out, pawns are not unimportant and a lot of chess strategy is about using them to best effect.

What does 'superiority' mean in:
After 1...Nxe5 2.Rxe5 Bd6 or 2...Bf6 , the White Rook would have to retreat and, the Black Bishop Would enjoy his superiority.

In this position the bishop would be more powerful than the rook. The word 'enjoy' emphasises that this is an unusual thing (for the bishop to be more powerful). By treating the bishop as a real person rather than a bit of wood, the author is imagining the bishop being pleased with his new importance.

The OP’s question - as with all the other threads he has started - is about language. Possibly it would have stayed on the main forum had he not asked so many similar questions and started a different thread for every one.
