A book is merely a book
BUT,
The play´s the thing!
James Graham's QUIZ play, at Minerva Theatre, Chichester, was extraordinary

It flashes about here there and everywhere with the trial, the advent of the TV Game Show, Millionaire? itself and the players´ preparations featuring in sundry bits. Several characters played by the same people too.
2 copies of our book, Bad Show, on display/sale just outside.
Spoke afterwards with the guy who plays Ingram and several others of the cast as we drank and ate together.
Spoke with the head of Celador, Paul Smith, also... who was by no means antipathetic.
Afterwards I heard Smith talking with James Graham - who sat in the next seat from me throughout - that Russell T. Davies had been brought in to write a film script but had dropped it because he thought it might hurt Ingram's kids still more.
Smith and Graham also spoke about the play moving to the West End.
Half way through the court announces the verdict and we then were asked to vote on keypads, Guilty or Not Guilty ?
Vote was 79% Guilty.
THEN the second act showed the case for the defence far more convincingly and also the inconsistencies in Celador's case.
At the end a final vote was taken.
Guilty Vote was now 34%.
And then the Final Votes on the Previous 8 nights were shown.
Ours was the lowest Guilty Vote, all others were less than 50 per cent, too.
Scene in which Ingram brings in to his wife, in his arms, their dying cat who had been shot.
Tecwen Whittock, Larry Whitehurst, Adrian Pollock, Ingram's barrister Sonia Woodley...Paul Smith himself, Chris Tarrant... all principle dramatis personae portrayed.
I said afterwards to several of the cast that it's coming to THIS, where, as the play points out, what was presented as Justice was in fact essentially THEATRE, had now in reaching it's, probable, denouement the need to have it all portrayed on STAGE was wholly apposite...

Paul Smith´s and James Graham´s discussion re the play based on our book hitting the West End were not misplaced.

Well, we´ll see whether the audience when asked to vote, as they will be every night, agree with Neville Twitchell or Martin Benjamin.
Will we not?

The set is set ..
https://twitter.com/liam_jefford/status ... 6873906176
I´ll be attending Press Night on April 10th.
And earlier that same day there will be a discussion between myself and the Managing Director of Celador, Paul Smith (first witness for prosecution at trial) live on Jeremy Vine´s Radio Show at 12:30 p.m. on April 10th.
Vine requested a copy of Bad Show with which to brief himself and is of course a familar figure to UK Television audiences as presenter of BBC´s Quiz show Eggheads.
Should be fun!

I suppose this is as good a place as any to observe that Bob Woffinden, noted investigative journalist, has sadly passed away.

Further to Martin Benjamin´s insisting that he did it, let me append TWO reviews.
The first of our book, and from a guy who says he also thought only a fool could dispute Ingram´s guilt, and the second of the script of James Graham´s play, QUIZ -

I've been interested in the Millionaire scandal for quite a while now, and when I first heard about the book, I was very very interested. I watched ITV's documentary on the whole situation and read some articles, but I found myself annoyed at the lack of balanced arguments supporting both sides, so this book really appealed to me.
Although it does sometimes talk about subjects unrelated to the Millionaire case, it still kept me highly engaged and wanted to read more and more, and I enjoyed the authors' approach to the book.
Bad Show gives a different perspective to the same, and sometimes even new, evidence that was used in the court and in the press. And by the end of the book, I was absolutely convinced that Charles Ingram and Tecwen Wittock were 100% innocent, something I used to think only a fool can believe. The whole case seems as if it was not taken seriously at all and the huge loss that the Ingrams have faced does not matter to anyone.
In the book's own words, ITV must pay Charles Ingram the £1million that they owe him.
This book is an absolute must-read, so do not skip it.
And this is of James Graham´s text of his play, QUIZ -

Contemporary and entirely relevant to today's media-driven post-truth world were nothing, absolutely nothing, remains sacred. It seriously challenges our bias yet equally entertains. I read this and saw the play at the Noel Coward Theatre, West End. It explores our love affair with game shows and focuses on the Charles Ingram alleged cheating scandal on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in 2001. The play's set, razzmatazz and audience interaction were superb, all cleverly softening the shocking and to my mind, sinister truth. So you think you know the truth? Witch hunt or heist? Read or watch with an open mind and be prepared to be amazed.

James Graham tells me they are entertaining the possibility of broadcasting the series this Xmas.
But, in view of post production work, it may be Easter 2020 before it hits the screens.
