I have done a book translation (with the help from chess players/trainers/masters on this forum and elsewhere) of Play Winning Chess by GM Yasser Seirawan.
Now my question is, does my prublication of the translation take a portion of market away from Everyman chess, the publisher of the original English text?
Anyone answers?
I think it may be a good idea to try to answer your own questions.

(I think there may be some elementary economic theory at play here, something to do with substitute goods and complementary goods).

To answer your question, I would have though it highly likely that your publication (sic) of the translation takes away a portion of Everyman's potential market. I imagine Everyman thinks this as well, if they have demanded some compensation for the publication rights.
Well, they demanded a royalty and I sent them in cheque through my brother-in-law, but don't know why they have not cashed it.
Someone told me the Everyman team have changed their location, but their website is still showing the same address.

I have translated a chess book from Everyman Chess. May I convert it into PDF and Sell PDF copies over the internet?

The guy at EverymanChess permitted.
What factors should be considered in the pricing of PDFs?

The same factors as should be considered in the pricing of anything: the marginal cost of production (which in this case is practically nil), and the demand curve for the product.

Presumably the author and publishers gave their permission for the material to be published in this manner.

It's downloadable there....
Also the book by Alexi Kosikov has the same status...

Might I download and print the books, or do I have to refer to the website every time I want to read the books?

I doubt it very much. Much copyrighted printed material has been scanned, PDF'd and then uploaded by pirates. I doubt very much if the publishers

1. Are Aware
2. Care
3. Have the resources to do anything about it

However, I would have to admit that I located a pgn archive of all the games from

Not Only Chess by Gerald Abrahams which included a Fairhurst - Abrahams game from Ramsgate 1929 that was missing from Megabase 2014.

This game was formative to the early years of the Abrahams Defence to the Queen's Gambit.

Put a strong password on it and don't tell anyone what it is?

It is my well-known (at least on this forum!) translation of Play Winning Chess which I now want to sell as a PDF ebook.
